Tiwari, Rahate,Tejashree, Sarita excel in walkathon

Alok Tiwari and Shashikant Rahate, both from The Times of India secured first position in above 50 and below 50 men's category respectively  in the Media Walkathon that was organised by Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur in association with Tirupati Urban Co-opera

tive Bank Limited on Sunday. 

In the women category, Tejashree Jogdand (TOI) and Sarita Hurmade walked to glory.  Around 250 media persons participated in the event with lot of enthusiasm. Tiwari clocked 27.46 minutes to achieve premier place. Shridhar Burade (27:50) of Maharashtra Patrakar Sangh and Arvind Upare (28:32) of Lokmat finished second and third respectively. 

In below 50 men category, Shashikant Rahate (26:20), Akshay Gandhi (26:25) of Sakal  and Govind Hatwar (26:42) also from Sakal secured first, second and third place respectively. 

In two-kilometre women's section, Tejashree Jogdand of TOI excelled with a timing 16:33 minutes. She was followed by Yamini Rampalliwar (16:50) of Lokmat Samachar  and Rakhi Chavan (16:55) of Loksatta for second and third spot respectively. 

In family category, Sarita Hurmade, Pushpa Pathrabe and Sunita Sharma finished first, second and third respectively. Consolation prize was given to Chaitali Nayse. Earlier vice-principal of Dr Ambedkar College Dr AP Joshi and Shiv Chhatrapati awardee Girish Gadge flagged off the event and later distributed the prizes also. SJAN president Dr Ram Thakur conducted the proceedings. Nagpur District Athletic Association provided the technical assistance to make the event a great success.

Below 50 men (4km): Shashikant Rahate (TOI) 26:20, 2. Akshay Gandhi (Sakal) 26:25; 3. Govind Hatwar (Sakal) 26:42; 4. Vikas Choudhary (Lokmat) 26:50; 5. Sachin Dadwe (Punyanagari) 27:00. 

Women (2 km): 1. Tejashree Jogdand (TOI)16:33; 2. Yamini Rampalliwar (Lokmat Samachar) 16:50; 3. Rakhi Chavan (Loksatta) 16:55; 4. Varsha Tiwari (Dainik Bhaskar) 16:58; 5. Minakshi Menon (Lokmat) 17:05. 

Women (family 2 km): 1. Sarita Hurmade (16:40); 2. Pushpa Pathrabe (16:43); 3. Sunita Sharma (17:31); 4. Samina Mirza (17:58); 5. Leena Sakharkar (19:11).
