Punyanagari shock Times of India



Last year's runners-up Punyanagari stunned Times of India by two runs in a league match of the SJAN-OCHRI 14th T20 inter-press cricket tournament on Monday.
In another match, Sakal suffered another defeat, this time at the hands of Lokshahi Varta by 16 runs.

The Hitavada stun Lokmat
Nine-time champion The Hitavada stunned defending champion Lokmat by six runs in a thrilling encounter of the 14th SJAN-Orange City Hospital Cup Inter-Press Invitational Twenty-20 Cricket Tournament played at Dr Ambedkar College ground on Sunday. Lokmat finished their league rounds with three wins and a loss while The Hitavada still have a game to play against Deshonnati (on January 18). In another match of the day, Tarun Bharat defeated Deshonati by six wickets.
Corporator Prafull Gudadhe (Patil) and NDTTA secretary Adv. Ashutosh Potnis were the guests at Dr Ambedkar College ground.

Daf slams unbeaten ton in Punyanagari's huge win
Batting first Punyanagari amassed a whopping 257 runs, highest in this edition, losing just two wickets in 20 overs.
M of the match Daf was in murderous form as he hit 16 boundaries and a six to notch up his first century in this edition.
Daf, along with Vaibhav Sonawane (44) added 113 runs for the first wicket and then added 115 runs for the second wicket with Pankaj Pande (43) as Punyanagari hammered a listless and pathetic Indian Loksatta-India Express bowlers to all parts of the field. Sonawane slammed five fours and two sixes in his 27-ball innings while Pande his eight boundaries from 21 balls.
For IE-Loksatta, Aniruddha Pane and Vijay Sant took a wicket each.
In reply, the losers managed to score only 139 runs thus losing the match by 118 runs. Prashant Bandelu scored 47 while Swapnil Nagpure added 37.
For Punyanagari, Umesh Tekade took five wickets conceding 20 runs while Sonawane took two.
In another match at Dr Ambedkar College ground, Times of India defeated Lokshahi Varta by six wickets. Lokshahi Varta made 123 from 19.2 overs with Rahul Jadhav scoring a half century (55; 56b, 6x4). Shrikant Bhalerao added 16 while Manish Gadekar contributed 11. Tushar Shukla took three wickets while Rupesh Bhaik, Faizul Qumar and Suraj Nair took two each.
Times of India achieved the target in 16.5 overs with Shukla scoring a fine half century (65; 36b, 11x4, 2x6). Suhas Nayse remained unbeaten on 13. Bhalerao took two wickets while Rahul Chonde and Sandeep Ganar took one each.

Hitavada, Lokmat record wins






The Hitavada defeated Tarun Bharat by seven wickets in the 14th SJAN-Orange City Hospital Inter-Press Invitational Twenty20 Cricket Tournament. This was The Hitavada's second consecutive win. In another match, defending champion Lokmat thrashed Dainik Bhaskar by 126 runs to record their third straight win of the tournament.

Times of India, Lokshahi Varta record wins

LOKSHAHI Varta and Times of India registered easy victories over their respective rivals in the 14th SJAN-Orange City Hospital Cup Inter-Press Invitational Twenty20 Cricket Tournament played at Dr Ambedkar College and Vasant Nagar grounds on Thursday.
Tushar Shukla first took two wickets for Times of India and then whacked Sakal bowlers as they registered a comfortable six wickets win at Vasant Nagar ground.
Playing their first match of the tournament, ToI restricted Sakal to a paltry score of 118 from 20 overs.
Sakal won the toss but that was the only good thing to happen for them. Only Pankaj Borkar managed to show some hunger to score runs as he emerged top scorer for his team with 47 runs which included four boundaries.
Times of India bowlers were wayward as they leaked 30 extras, the second highest score of their innings.
Kishor Jamkar added 10 runs.
For Times of India, Suraj Nair and Faizul Qumar, apart from Shukla, took two wickets each.
Times of India’s reply was shaky as they lost their opener ---- on the first ball. They lost wickets at regular intervals but they managed to keep their high scoring rate intact. Shukla was in his elements as he smashed unbeaten 62 from 33 balls. His fiery knock contained six boundaries and three huge sixes. Rupesh Bhaik scored a quick 28 while Yogesh Banait added 10 runs.
For Sakal, Pankaj Borkar took two wickets while (2 for 22), Gurudas Raut and Avishkar Deshmukh took one each.
At Dr Ambedkar College ground, Indian Express-Loksatta were handed their second defeat in as many games as they lost to Lokshahi Varta by eight wickets.
Lokshahi Varta’s Shrikant Bhalerao and Sarang Chavan took four and three wickets respectively as Indian Express-Loksatta were bundled out for 73 runs. Harsh Datir was the top scorer with 33 runs. Lokshahi Varta achieved the target in 9.1 overs with Sandeep Ganar emerging as the top scorer with 31 runs. Chavan remained unbeaten on 18.
Swapnil Nagpure and Abhinav Patil took one wicket each for IE-Loksatta.

Scare, win by three wickets
The Hitavada’s Pravin Lokhande (117, 61b; 13x4, 5x6) struck a hurricane century as the nine-time champions started their campaign in the SJAN-OCHRI 14th inter-press cricket tournament with a huge 92 runs win over Dainik Bhaskar at Vasant Nagar ground.
The hard-hitting batsmen started cautiously but changed his gears after completing his half century as The Hitavada posted 202 from 20 overs after electing to bat first. Lokhande walked in the middle quite early after the departure of opener Pratik Sontakke. It was all Lokhande show after that as he hit the ball to all parts of the field with brute power.
It was a tough time for Dainik Bhaskar bowlers as none was spared from Lokhande’s storm. The other run scorers for The Hitavada were Rahul Dixit (18) Pawan Sawade (18) and Nikhil Dixit (12).
The target of 203 was always difficult to chase for Dainik Bhaskar. In an attempt to accelerate their innings, Dainik Bhaskar lost quick wickets and managed to gather 109 runs from 20 overs losing nine wickets. For The Hitavada, spinners Rammurti Nerlay and Piyush Patil took two wickets each while captain Susheem Kolay and Rahul Dixit took one each.
In another match played at Dr Ambedkar College ground, Lokmat managed to scrape past Tarun Bharat to a three-wicket win with the winning run coming in the last over.
Tarun Bharat posted 142 from 20 overs. Roshan Tamboli (42), Nitin Baitule (35) Mannu Bawa (20) were the main scorers. For Lokmat, Vivek Vyavhare and Nitin Pataria took two wickets each. Lokmat chased the target in 19.3 overs with Sachin Khadke emerging as the top scorer with 41 runs. Vyavhare and Amit Roshankhede scored 20 and 21 runs respectively while Pataria scored 17. For Tarun Bharat, Sandip Gadge took three wickets while Bawa, Vikas Barokar and Ankush Hiwrale took one each.

Sakal drub Loksatta by 84 runs
IN AN exciting tie, Lokshahi Varta stunned last year’s runners-up Punyanagari by 13 runs while Sakal recorded comprehensive 84-run victory over Indian Express-Loksatta in the SJAN-OCHRI 14th Inter-Press Invitational Twenty20 Cricket Tournament.
Satvik Group and Purti Group are the co-sponsors of the tournament.
At Vasant Nagar ground, batting first Lokshahi Varta knocked off 175 losing six wickets in 20 overs. Opening pair Rahul Jadhav and Sandeep Ganar made match-winning 129 runs for the first wicket in just 64 balls. Jadhav played 59-run knock in 31 balls with the help of ten boundaries. Ganar also scored 59 including nine boundaries and one six. Rahul Chonde contributed 16.
For Punyanagari, Udishtir Raich (3 for 18) was the main wicket taker. Manoj Jharia claimed two conceding 33 runs.
In reply, Punyanagair missed the target by just 13 runs. Pankaj Pande single-handedly held the fort but his 82-run knock consisting ten boundaries and three sixes went in vain. Ashwajeet Moon contributed 25.
For Lokshahi Varta, Manish Gadekar (3 for 26) and Shrikant Bhalerao (3 for 24) were the most successful bowlers. Pankaj Pande was declared man-of-the-match for his brilliant efforts.
At Ambedkar College ground, batting first Sakal piled up 197 losing five wickets in 20 overs. Thanks to Rajesh Vyavhare who remained unbeaten on 64. Pankaj Borkar also batted well and scored 46. Manoj Muley (22) and Kishor Jamkar (20) were other main scorers.
In reply, Indian Express- Loksatta were restricted to 113 for 8 in 20 overs. Only Harsh Datir (36 not out) and Prashant Bandelu (34) managed to cross the double-figure mark.
Pankaj Borkar was declared man-of-the-match.
