Lokmat’s Najpande bags double crown

Stamping his supremacy, Lokmat’s Pankaj Najpande bagged double crown in the Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Limited’s 5th Carrom Tournament for Media Employees organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) on Saturday.
The last day of the tournament witnessed some major upsets in both singles and doubles category. In the men's singles final,  fourth seed Najpande stunned third seed Paritosh Pramanik  of The Hitavada 21-5, 16-10 in straight two sets to claim the crown. Then in the doubles final,  pairing with Chittaranjan Nagdevte, Najpande downed Tarun Bharat duo  Datta Wazalwar-Sandip Gadge 22-0, 13-4.
Earlier in the singles semis, Pramanik quelled the challenge of top seed and his colleague Sudhir Delikar 9-4, 11-15, 7-6. Pankaj Najpande recorded easy 20-8, 6-1 victory over Umesh Mahadeokar.
In doubles, third seed duo Datta Wazalwar-Sandip Gadge surprised top seed pair  Sudhir Delikar- Paritosh Pramanik 15-9, 12-2.
Pankaj Najpande-Chittaranjan Nagdevte overcame the challenge of Kartik Lokhande-Ramesh Marulkar (The Htavada) 13-0, 1-12, 16-0.
 Chairman of Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Limited Sameer Meghe was the chief guest of prize distribution function. Noted sports organiser  Anil Ahirkar and former NMC Standing Committee chairman Sandeep Joshi were the guests of honour. Veteran organiser Sanjit Dakah and upcoming player Nayan Wankhede were honoured by SJAN on the occasion.
SJAN member Dr Ram Thakur conducted the proceedings. President Naresh Shelke mde introductory remarks while secrtary Kishor Bagde proposed a vote of thanks.
Results: Singles (semis): (S-3) Paritosh Pramanik (The Hitavada) bt (S-1) Sudhir Delikar (The Hitavada) 9-4, 11-15, 7-6; Pannkaj Najpande (Lokmat) bt Umesh Mahadeokar (Tarun Bharat) 20-8, 6-1.
Final: (S-4) Pankaj Najpande bt (S-3) Paritosh Pramanik 21-5, 16-10.

Delikar, Najpande, Pramanik, Mahadeokar in semis

Top seed Sudhir Delikar, third seed Paritosh Pramanik, both of The Hitavada, second seed Pankaj Najpande and Umesh Mahadeokar moved into the semi-finals of the singles event of the Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Limited’s 5th carrom tournament for media employees.
In the doubles event, the pairs of Delikar-Pramanik, Ramesh Marulkar-Kartik Lokhande (The Hitavada), Datta Wazalwar-Sandeep Gadge (Tarun Bharat) and C Nagdevte-Pankaj Najpande (Lokmat) made it to the semi-finals.
In the quarter-finals, Delikar defeated Anil Futane 21-0, 12-3 while Pramanik ousted Jeevak Gajbhiye 10-4, 14-0. Umesh Mahadeokar sent Bheemrao Lonare packing beating him 11-6, 17-12 while Pankaj Najpande defeated Sandeep Gadge 16-0, 14-0.
In the doubles, Lokhande-Marulkar pair defeated Mahadeokar-Sanjay Lokhande 16-0, 17-0 while Pramanik-Delikar beat Gajbhiye-Ashish Joshi 25-0, 15-4.
The semis and the finals would be played on Saturday starting 9 am.
The prize distribution function will be held immediately after finals at 12 noon. Chairman of Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Limited Sameer Meghe will be the chief guest. Carrom Tournament for media employees begins

5th Carrom Tournament for media employees

Unseeded Umesh Mahadeokar of Tarun Bharat created the biggest upset on the opening day of the carrom tournament for media employees after he stunned second seed Chittaranjan Nagdevte of Lokmat 17-0, 11-5. The tournament is sponsored by Tirupati Urban Ci-op Bank Limited and is played at Hotel Chitambara.
This was the only upset as all the seeded players sailed into the quarter-finals. Former champion Paritosh Pramanik of The Hitavada defeated Vaibhav Ganjapure of Times of India in the second round and then ousted Datta Wazalwar of Tarun Bharat in the pre-quarters to book quarter-finals berth.

Carrom meet begins today






Stage is set for the fifth edition of carrom tournament for media employees being organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) at Hotel Chidambara, Ramdaspeth, from Thursday.
The tournament, sponsored by Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Limited, has evoked good response.
Vice-Chairman of Tirupati Bank Narayandas Ahuja  will inaugurate the tournament at 8.30 a.m. NIT trustee Kishor Kanhere and former NMC Standing Committee chairman Sandeep Joshi would be the guests of honour. The tournament will be held in two categories i.e. men’s singles and doubles. Defending champion Sudhir Deliakar of The Hiitavada has been given top seeding in the men’s singles event. Chittaranjan Nagdevte (Lokmat), Paritosh Pramanik (The Hitavada)  and Pankaj Najpande (Lokmat) have been given second to fourth seeding, respectively. In the doubles event Delikar-Pramanik duo has been given top billing.
Cash prizes and trophies would be given to the winners, runners-up and semi-finalists in each categories.
Siddharth Narnaware is the chief referee of the tournament. He will be assisted by Mukund Nagpurkar.

Carrom tourney for media employees from April 26



Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) will be organising its fifth edition of carrom tournament for media employees from April 26 to April 28 at Hotel Chidambara, Ramdaspeth.
The tournament will be sponsored by Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Limited.
The tournament will be held in two categories i.e. men’s singles and men’s doubles event. Entry fee for men’s singles will be Rs 20 and Rs 40 for t doubles, says a press release issued by Kishor Bagde, Secretary, SJAN.
The last date of entry is April 20. Entries can be confirmed with the sports desks of respective newspapers. Cash prizes and trophies would be given to the winner, runners-up and semi-finalists in each categories.

Double crowns for Sant



DEFENDING champion Vijay Sant of Loksatta-Indian Express left no stone unturned in this year’s meet too as he pocketed men’s singles and doubles titles of eighth edition of SJAN-Gracelands Badminton Tournament for Media Employees at Subhedar Hall on Sunday.
In an exciting men’s doubles final, Vijay Sant-Vivek Puradbhat beat Madhav Soman-Suhas Nayse of Times of India (TOI) 19-21, 22-20, 21-9. Both the pairs displayed excellent skills in the entire match.
Soman-Nayse played smartly and pocketed the tightly-finished first game.
The second game turned out to be dramatic one, having being down by a game, Sant and Puradbhat were matching standards with Nayse-Soman. At 20-19, Nayse-Soman were on match point. But they faltered. Sant-Puradbhat crawled and levelled the score. With some brilliant show they won the second game to take the match to the third game.
The decider happened to be a walk in the park for Sant-Puradbhat. They comfortably knocked Nayse-Soman out to win doubles title.
Earlier in the singles final, Sant recorded comfortable win over Ashish Jain of Lokmat 21-13, 21-6.
Jain was no match to Sant from the word go. Sant showcased some attacking smashes to take the first game.
In the second game, Jain looked under pressure. Sant took the
advantage of the situation and thrashed him to emerge victorious in singles category for second straight year.
The women’s single final was fought between Steffi Joseph and Shrishti Gupta both from TOI, where former won 30-12.
Earlier in semi-finals of men’s singles, Sant beat Suhas Nayse 21-13, 21-9.
In other semis, Jain beat TOI’s Harshad Pandharipande 21-4, 21-8 to make it to the final.
In men’s doubles, Nayse- Soman beat Sunil Warrier-Manish Sakharwade (TOI) 21-14, 21-12.
In second semis, Sant-Puradbhat beat Jain-Vilas Tijare 21-13, 21-13 to surge into the final.
In women’s singles Steffi beat Meenakshi Menon of Lokmat 30-15 and in the other semis Shrishti Gupta beat Aparna Nair 30-5.
Rakesh Kochhar, Director, Guru Nanak Institute of Engineering and Technology, and Dr Yashwant Patil, Co-ordinator, Post Graduate Teaching Department of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, distributed the prizes.
