‘Look at kabaddi from career prospects'

SJAN felicitates kabaddi players

The game of kabaddi is exciting as well as entertaining. Therefore both the sportspersons and their parents should look at this game from career point of view, said former kabaddi national player and working president of Nagpur District Kabaddi Association Girish Vyas.
He was speaking during the function organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) to mark the occasion of World Sports Journalists’ Day at Tilak Patrakar Bhavan on Thursday.
Shiv Chhatrapati awardee Girish Gadge and former national player Vijaya Anekar also shared the dias. Speaking further Girish Vyas said most of the students as well as parents attract towards glamorous game like cricket and at the same time they ignore our Indian games like kabaddi and kho-kho. This attitude is the main reason behind its degradation.
While appreciating SJAN’s initiative, Girish Gadge said sincere efforts should be made to keep this Indian game alive. While guiding budding kabaddi players Vijaya Ane said along with strength they should adopt technique and strategy to improve their game.
The guests felicitated budding kabaddi players including Dipali Banmote, Priyanka Thakre, Sakshi Shende, Niilambari Bagde, Pooja Admane, Nikita Korte, Vaishnavi Sarore, Chhakuli Kshirsagar, Deepa Ambade, Chhakuli Wankhede, Pinki Bhanse and Nikita Godbe by presenting kit bags and T-shirts.
Veteran kabaddi players Shivajirao Mohite (Maratha Lancers) and Shirpatrao Burde (Subhash Mandal) were also honoured d on the occasion. SJAN president Naresh Shelke conducted the proceedings while secreary Kishor Bagde proposed a vote of thanks.

SJAN to honour kabaddi players tomorrow

As a part of World Sports Journalists’ Day,  Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) will be felicitating talented women kabaddi players at a function to be held on Thursday (July 5) at Tilak Patrakar Bhavan at 11 a.m.

Working president of Nagpur District Kabaddi Association Girish Vyas, Shiv Chhatrapati award recipient sports organiser Girish Gadge and former kabaddi player Vijaya Anekar will grace the occasion.

Bagde and Pramanik elected on SJFI body

SPORTS Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) Secretary Kishor Bagde and Joint Secretary Paritosh Pramanik have been elected as Executive Members of the Sports Journalists Federation of India (SJFI) for the term of 2012-14. The elections for the new executive were held at Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday.
G Viswanath of Mumbai, was elected as the new President while Subodh Barua of Assam was voted as the new Secretary.
Total 14 SJFI units took part in the annual general meeting and elections. SJAN candidates Bagde and Pramanik got 13 and 12 votes, respectively, to win the Executive Members posts.
Naresh Shelke, President, SJAN, represented the association in the annual general meeting.

Sudhir Shrivastava no more

NAGPUR, May 2
Sudhir Shrivastava, a veteran sports reporter and former president of Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN), passed away on Wednesday (May 2) due to cardiac arrest. He was 61. He is survived by wife, son and daughter. 
The last rites were performed at Gangabai Ghat at 12 noon on Wednesday. A condolence meeting was held at the where President of Maharashtra State Volleyball Association Vijay Dangre, members of SJAN and sports lovers were present.
Shrivasatava worked with Hindi daily ‘Navbharat’ as a sports journalist for more than three decades and retired last year. He was the president SJAN from 1997 to 2005. Shrivastava was elected as the vice-president of Sports Journalists’ Federation of India (SJFI) at Kolkata Convention in 2000 and was re-elected in 2003.
Shrivastava, who was fondly known as ‘Pappu Bhaiyya’ by journalists all over the country, was admitted to a local hospital a few days back. He breadth his last at 4.45 on Wednesday morning. A former volleyball player, Shrivastava was serving as the secretary of Nagpur District Volleyball Association and was also on the state volleyball body.

Lokmat’s Najpande bags double crown

Stamping his supremacy, Lokmat’s Pankaj Najpande bagged double crown in the Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Limited’s 5th Carrom Tournament for Media Employees organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) on Saturday.
The last day of the tournament witnessed some major upsets in both singles and doubles category. In the men's singles final,  fourth seed Najpande stunned third seed Paritosh Pramanik  of The Hitavada 21-5, 16-10 in straight two sets to claim the crown. Then in the doubles final,  pairing with Chittaranjan Nagdevte, Najpande downed Tarun Bharat duo  Datta Wazalwar-Sandip Gadge 22-0, 13-4.
Earlier in the singles semis, Pramanik quelled the challenge of top seed and his colleague Sudhir Delikar 9-4, 11-15, 7-6. Pankaj Najpande recorded easy 20-8, 6-1 victory over Umesh Mahadeokar.
In doubles, third seed duo Datta Wazalwar-Sandip Gadge surprised top seed pair  Sudhir Delikar- Paritosh Pramanik 15-9, 12-2.
Pankaj Najpande-Chittaranjan Nagdevte overcame the challenge of Kartik Lokhande-Ramesh Marulkar (The Htavada) 13-0, 1-12, 16-0.
 Chairman of Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Limited Sameer Meghe was the chief guest of prize distribution function. Noted sports organiser  Anil Ahirkar and former NMC Standing Committee chairman Sandeep Joshi were the guests of honour. Veteran organiser Sanjit Dakah and upcoming player Nayan Wankhede were honoured by SJAN on the occasion.

Delikar, Najpande, Pramanik, Mahadeokar in semis

Top seed Sudhir Delikar, third seed Paritosh Pramanik, both of The Hitavada, second seed Pankaj Najpande and Umesh Mahadeokar moved into the semi-finals of the singles event of the Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Limited’s 5th carrom tournament for media employees.

In the doubles event, the pairs of Delikar-Pramanik, Ramesh Marulkar-Kartik Lokhande (The Hitavada), Datta Wazalwar-Sandeep Gadge (Tarun Bharat) and C Nagdevte-Pankaj Najpande (Lokmat) made it to the semi-finals.

In the quarter-finals, Delikar defeated Anil Futane 21-0, 12-3 while Pramanik ousted Jeevak Gajbhiye 10-4, 14-0. Umesh Mahadeokar sent Bheemrao Lonare packing beating him 11-6, 17-12 while Pankaj Najpande defeated Sandeep Gadge 16-0, 14-0.

In the doubles, Lokhande-Marulkar pair defeated Mahadeokar-Sanjay Lokhande 16-0, 17-0 while Pramanik-Delikar beat Gajbhiye-Ashish Joshi 25-0, 15-4.

The semis and the finals would be played on Saturday starting 9 am.

The prize distribution function will be held immediately after finals at 12 noon. Chairman of Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Limited Sameer Meghe will be the chief guest. Noted sports organiser  Anil Ahirkar will be the guest of honour. Veteran organiser Sanjit Daka and upcoming player Nayan Wankhede will be honoured by SJAN on the occasion.
