SJAN fetes Al Aziz footballers, state hockey players on International Sports Journalists' Day










CELEBRATING the International Sports Journalists’ Day, Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) felicitated talented football and hockey players of the city at a function held on Tuesday at Police Lines Takli ground.
The programme was organised in association with Nagpur District Football Association.
On the occasion members of NDFA Second Divisional champion team Al Aziz Football Club were felicitated along with girls and boys hockey players who represented Maharashtra in Hockey India’s national tournaments.
An exhibition football match between journalists and NDFA officials was also played which was won by the latter on penalties after both the teams played out a 2-2 draw.
Girl hockey players, who were felicitated include Rinku Yadav, Deepali Arjapure, Sonu Meshram and Anita Gajbhiye while boys who represented Maharashtra Sub-junior hockey team Tabrez Sheikh and Akib Rahim and Shahbaz Pathan (Senior National) were also feted.
The team members of Al Aziz Sports Club include: Meraj Ansari, Waqar Ahamed, Ansari, Mohd Khalil, Md Asif Ali, Ishrad Sagar, Mohd Saqlain, Mohd Muqib, Alam, Sharique Nihal, Mohd Faraz, Amir Patel, mohd. Jameel, Shahid Hassan, Mohd Kafeel, Sartaj, Faizan, Zubir Shekih, Aquib, Arshad Kamal. Coach: Mohd Anees Raza, Manager: Javed Rana.
Anjaya Anaparthy (SJAN) and Naquib Ansari (NDFA) were also honoured for their exception play during the friendly match.
The function was graced by Sameer Meghe, Chairman, Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank, Avinash Bhute, of Tajshree Motors, Anupam Soni, Secretary, Nagpur Union of Working Journalist, Kishor Jichkar, former Corporator, Satish Ringne Reserve Police Inspector and Incharge of the ground, PSI Chandrabhan Singh Thakur.
 Dr Ram Thakur, SJAN president conducted the programme.

SJAN to fete soccer, hockey players

TO MARK the  International Sports Journalists’ Day, Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) will felicitate talented football and hockey players at a function to be held on Tuesday, July two, at the old Rural Police parade grounds, Takli at 10 am.
The programme has been organised in association with Nagpur District Football Association (NDFA). Members of NDFA Second Divisional champion team Al Aziz Football Club will be feted on the occasion. Four city women hockey players who had represented Maharashtra in the nationals will also be honoured.
An exhibition football match between journalists and NDFA officials will also be played on the occasion. Even as the journalists have listed out their players, the NDFA staff is also eagerly looking forward to this friendly, where not only will the football be seen bouncing around sportingly, but also pot-bellies and pot-bellies in the making will also perform likewise. Both organisations are grateful to City Police for allowing them to kick-around at their playfields.

Good response to Media Walkathon

A journalist’s life is full of pressure while maintaining the deadlines, running behind exclusive stories and not to mention long and odd working hours. In such a scenario a stress-buster is always welcome. Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) in association with Orange City Hospital and Research Institute (OCHRI) organised Media walkathon which evoked good response on Sunday.

Media persons and their wives spared some time from busy schedule and walked for the health with lot of enthusiasm and energy in the event which was organised at Dr Ambedkar College for the first time.

The event was organised in four categories. In four-kilometre above 50 years category Jayant Kate of Lokmat emerged winner with a timing 25.54: 53 minutes. Ravindra Thakur of Lokmat Samachar finished second. He clocked 29. 54: 44 min. Arvind Upare of Lokmat achieved third place with a timing 33.13: 532 minutes.

Similarly in below 50 years men category, Rajesh Sharma of Lokmat walked to glory with a timing 27.13: 22. Subroto Chatrjeee of the same newspaper finished runners-up. He achieved the distance in 29. 32: 44 minutes. The Hitavada's Hitesh Limbachia (30. 40: 14 min) secured third place.

In four kilometre employees section, Alka Tote (20. 25: 31min) of Lokmat triumphed followed by Rakhi Chavan (22. 15: 70 )of Maharashtra times and Jyoti Sharan (25. 17: 25 min) of Lokmat Samachar.

In family section, Trupti Bhumar achieved premier position followed by Minal Deshpande and Samina Mirza.

Director of OCHRI Dr Anup Marar, president of Yugantar Education Society Rajkumar Tirpude and vice-principal of Dr Ambedkar College Dr AP Joshi distributed the prizes.

Earleir former NMC Standing Committee chairman Sandeep Joshi, additional commissioner Hemant Pawar and principal of Dr Ambedkar College Dr Malti Reddy flagged off the race.

SJAN secretary Kishor Bagde conducted the proceedings while president Dr Ram Thakur made introductory remarks. Secretary of Nagpur District Athletic Association Prof. Sharad Suryavanshi and his team along with SJAN members worked hard for the success of event.

Above 50 years men (4 km): 1. Jayant Kate (Lokmat) 25.54:53 min, 2. Ravindra Thakur (Lokmat Samachar) 29.54:44 min, 3. Arvind Upare (Lokmat) 33.13:52 min.

Below 50 years men (4 km): 1 Rajesh Sharma (Lokmat) 27.13: 22 min, 2. Subroto Chaterjee (Lokmat) 29.32: 44 min, 3. Hitesh Limbachia (The Hitavada) 30.40: 14 min.

Women employees (2 km): 1. Alka Tote (Lokmat) 20. 25: 31 min, 2. Rakhi Chavan (Maharashtra Times) 22.15: 70 min, 3. Jyoti Sharan (Lokmat Samachar) 25. 17: 25 min.

Women (family 2 km): 1. Trupti Bhumar (12. 13. 33 min), 2. Minal Deshpande (14 . 12: 47 min), 3. Samina Mirza (17.43: 22 min).

Consolation prizes: Mansi Shenolikar and Chaitali Nayse.

Media Walkathon getting good response

The ‘Media Walkathon’ organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) in association with Orange City Hospital and Research Institute (OCHRI) with a slogan ‘Walk for Health’ to be held on June 2 has evoked good response.
The event will be flagged off at 6.30 am. Participants will have to report at 6 am. The four-kilometre walk for men in below and above 50 years category will start from Dr Ambedkar College and would take the route through Govt Chitrakala Mahavidyalaya, Kachipura police station, Alankar Talkies, Shankar Nagar square, Bajaj Nagar, Matruseva Sangh College and will terminate at Dr Ambedkar College Sports Academy ground.
Similarly, the two-kilometre walk for women will be flagged off from Dr Ambedkar College and will take the route of Govet Chitrakala Mahavidyalaya, Kachipura police station, Bajaj Nagar square, Matruseva Sangh College and will terminate at  Dr Ambedkar College Sports Academy ground.
The prize distribution function will be held immediately after the event.  Attractive prizes and mementoes will be given to first three winners in each category.

Undirwade stuns defending champion Najpande, enter semis











Unseeded Rakesh Undirwade of Gaurav Garima stunned top seed and defending champion Pankaj Najpande of Lokmat in the quarter-finals of the 6th Carrom Tournament for Media Employees organised by Sports Journalists' Association fo Nagpur and sponsored by Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd under way at Patrakar Bhawan.
Undirwade moved into the semi-final defeating Najpande 6-3, 18-0.
In another shocking result, Nilesh Doye of Punyanagari ousted Lokmat’s Chittaranjan Nagdevte 11-7, 17-5 to move into semis.
In the doubles Nagdevte-Najpande pair moved into the final defeating The Hitavada’s Anil Futane and Sarang Kunte 25-0, 24-4.
The semi-finals and finals will be played on Sunday from 9 a.m. onwards followed by prize distribution function. Director of Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd Ramesh Borkute,  NMC Standing Committee chairman Avinash Thakre and general secretary of All India Carrom Federation Prabhjeetsingh Bachher will also grace the occasion.

Carrom meet gets under way

The 6th Carrom Tournament for Media Employees organised by Sports Journalists Association of Nagpur (SJAN) and sponsored by Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Ltd. was inaugurated by vice-president of the bank Narayandas Ahuja. Noted sports organiser and corporator Prof. Vijay Barse and president of Tilak Patrakar Bhavan Trust Pradip Maitra also graced the occasion. SJAN president Dr Ram Thakur made introductory remarks. Secretary Kishor Bagde, treasurer Suhas Nayse, member Nilesh Deshpande and Narendra Chore welcomed the guests. Member Amit Sampat conducted the proceedings while joint secretary Sarang Kunte proposed a vote of thanks.

Media carrom tourney begins from Friday


Stage is set for the sixth edition of carrom tournament for media employees being organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) at Tilak Patrakar Bhavan from Friday. The tournament, sponsored by Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Limited, has evoked good response.Vice-Chairman of Tirupati Bank Narayandas Ahuja will inaugurate the tournament at  10 a.m. Former NMC Standing Committee chairman Sandeep Joshi would be the guest of honour. Cash prizes and trophies would be given to the winners, runners-up and semi-finalists in each categories.The finals will be played on Sunday followed by prize distribution function. Siddharth Narnaware is the chief referee of the tournament. He will be assisted by Mukund Nagpurkar.

Najpande gets to top billing


 Lokmat's Pankaj Najpande has been given top seeding in Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Limited sponsored  and Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) organised  6th Carrom Tournament for Media Employees beginning at Tilak Patrakar Bhavan from April 26.
In the men's singles, Paritosh Pramanik of The Hitavada has been given second billing while Umesh Mahadeokar of Tarun Bharat is ranked third. Other seeded players are Anil Futane of The Hitavada (4th), Bhimrao Lonare of Lokshahi Varta (5th), Jeevak Gajbhiye of Lokshahi varta (6th) and Sandip Gadge of Tarun Bharat (7th).
In doubles, Pankaj Najpande and Chittaranjan Nagdevte duo of Lokmat has been given top seedings. Sandeep Gadge- Umesh Mahadeokar has been given second billing. Others are Kartik Lokhande-Ramesh Marulkar (third) and Paritosh Pramanik- Anil Futane (4th). The tournament has evoked good response. Siddharth Narnaware is the chief referee of tournament and he is assisted by Mukund Nagpurkar.

Thakur, Bagde to lead SJAN


DR RAM Thakur of Lokmat Samachar was elected as the president of the Sports Journalists Association of Nagpur (SJAN) for the second time at its annual general meeting on Sunday.
The entire executive was elected unopposed for a three-year term (2013-2016).
Lokmat’s Kishor Bagde retained his post of secretary while The Times of India’s Suhas Nayse was elected as the treasurer. Sandeep Dabhekar of ToI and Sarang Kunte of The Hitavada secured the posts of Vice-President and Joint-Secretary respectively.
The executive members also elected unopposed, include Nilesh Deshpande (Lokmat Times), Narendra Chore (Sakal), Amit Ramteke (Lokshahi Varta) and Sujan Masid (Dainik Bhaskar).
Election Officer Adv DS Karunashankar declared the new executive body.
