Record entries in Media Walkathon
Event on Sunday
Nagpur, June 12, 2015: Tirupati Urban Co-Operative Bank Media Walkathon organised by the Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) has evoked good response as around 250 media persons have confirmed their participation.
The unique event for the mediapersons and their family will be held on Sunday, June 14 at Ambedkar College ground, Deekshabhoomi at 6.30 a.m. Prabhakar Heart Institute are the co-sponsors of the event.The importance of fitness in a journalist's life--which is full of stress be it of the deadline or exclusive stories--is known to all. And most of us know how serious we are about the issue!
So, SJAN in keeping with its aim of promoting fitness among the sports brethren has been organising the media walkathon for third year in running.
The walkathon will be held in four categories: Above 50 men (4km), below 50 men (4km), Women (2 km) and women family (2km)
Attractive prizes and mementoes will be given to first three winners in each category.
The event will be flagged off at 6.30 am but participants will have to report at 6 a.m.Dr Satish Poshettiwar of Prabhakar Heart Institute and vice-principal of Dr Ambedkar College Dr Arvind Joshi will flag off the event.
The four-kilometre walk for men in below and above 50 years category will start from Dr Ambedkar College and would take the route through Govt Chitrakala Mahavidyalaya, Kachipura police station, Alankar Talkies, Shankar Nagar square, Bajaj Nagar, Matruseva Sangh College and will terminate at Dr Ambedkar College Sports Academy ground.
Similarly, the two-kilometre walk for women will be flagged off from Dr Ambedkar College and will take the route of Govt Chitrakala Mahavidyalaya, Kachipura police station, Bajaj Nagar square, Matruseva Sangh and will terminate at Dr Ambedkar College Sports Academy ground.
The prize distribution function will be held immediately after the event. MLA and chairman of Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Sameer Meghe, North Nagpur MLA Dr Milind Mane, Dr Poshettiwar and Dr Arvind Joshi will grace the occasion.
Shiv Chhatrapati awardee Girish Gadge , secrerary of Nagpur District Athletic Association Dr Sharad Suryavanshi and his team are helping the organisers to make the event a great success.
Last year Alok Tiwari and Shashikant Rahate, both from The Times of India along with Tejashree Jogdand (TOI) and Sarita Hurmade excelled in their respective categories.

Lokmat's Jain bags double crown
Lokmat's
Ashish Jain stamped his supremacy claiming double crown in 11th
Badminton Tournament for Media Employees organised by Sports
Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) in association with PGTD of
Physical Education of RTM Nagpur University at Subhedar Hall on Wednesday.
In
an exciting men's singles final, Jain pipped Suhas Nayse of The Times
of India in three games. After losing first game 17-21, Jain regrouped
himself and restored parity winning second game 21-14. In the decider,
Jain didn't give opportunity to his opponent and went on to win 21-11.
Earlier in the semis Jain made a light work of Sujan Masid of Dainik
Bhaskar 21-9, 21-9. Nayse got rid of his colleague Madhav Soman in the
second semi-final.
In the doubles pairing with new partner
Raviraj Ambadwar, Jain toppled top seeded pair Suhas Nayse- Madhav Soman
(TOI) 21-11,19-21, 21-15 in three-game battle.
In the semis, Ashish Jain-Raviraj Ambadwar shocked second seed Sunil Warrier-Manish Sakharwade (TOI) 21-16,15-21,21-14.
Aditi Sharma of TOI defeated Surabhi Puradbhat (Hitavada) 21-09, 21-06 to win women singles crown.

11th Badminton Tournament for Media Employees
SJAN media badminton begins
The 11th SJAN
Media Badminton Tournament jointly organised by the Sports Journalists’
Association of Nagpur (SJAN) and Post Graduate Teaching Department for
Physical Education, RTM Nagpur University began at Subhedar Hall on Monday. The three-day annual tournament has been sponsored by Dr Dande Foundation.
Former
top Indian badminton star Uday Pawar inaugurated the tournament. Dr
Pinak Dande of Dande Foundation presided over the function. Director of
Department of Sports and Physical Education of RTM Nagpur University Dr
Dhananjay Welukar and coordinator PGTD of Physical Education Dr Sanjay
Choudhary also graced the occasion. SJAN president Dr Ram Thakur made
introductory remarks. Former NDBA secretary T Thomas, SSK Naidu, Prof.
Pundlik and others were also present on the occasion.
