SJAN’s penalty shoot-out meet on July 2


Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) will be celebrating International Sports Journalists’ Day by organising a penalty shoot-out competition for media persons at RTM Nagpur University playground on July 2 from 8 am onwards.
Last year in penalty shoot-out contest, Lokmat team comprising Nitin Pataria, Devendra Sadavarti and Nitin Shriwas emerged winners while The Times of India ‘B’ represented by Harshad Pandharipande, Rahul Soman and Ashish Kumar finished runners-up. Cash prizes will be given to first three teams.
The last date of registration is June 30. Each team must have three players and there will be no cap on numbers of teams from a newspaper.

Continuing its tradition of doing some charity on the occasion of International Sports Journalists’ Day, SJAN will honour Nagpur district junior handball  girls team members who excelled in various competitions recently.

Bhoyar, Sharma, Ashlesha, Ranjana walk to glory

Braving rains Dr Diwakar Bhoyar (Bahujan Sangharsh), Rajesh Sharma (Lokmat), Ashlesha Joshi (TOI) and Ranjana Gondane emerged the winners in their respective category in the 3rd Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Media Walkathon organised by the Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) on Sunday at Dr Ambedekar College ground, Deekshabhoomi. 
Prabhakar Heart Institute was the co-sponsor of the event. In above 50-years section, veteran Dr Diwakar Bhoyar clocked 22.07 min to win the event. He was followed by Shridhar Burade of Maharashtra Patrakar Sangh with a timing 26.31 min. Last year's winner Alok Tiwari of The Times of India and Arvind Upare of Lokmat finished third and fourth respectively. 
Similarly in below 50 years four-kilometer section, Rajesh Sharma of Lokmat secured first place with a timing 22.06 min. He was followed by Govind Hatwar Govind Hatwar (Sakal) 22.13 min and  Nikhil Pagey (Lokmat) 26.01 min. for second and third place respectively. Last year's champion in the same category Shashikant Rahate lagged behind and achieved fourth place. Fifth place went to Lokmat's Raviraj Ambadwar. 
In two-kilometer women section, TOI's Ashlesha Joshi triumphed with a timing 15.05 min. Anita Shrivastava and Sonu Wajekar both from Dainik Bhaskar secured second and third place respectively. Alka Tote (Lokmat) and Charulata Maitra (TOI) finished fourth and fifth respectively. In family category, Ranjana Gondane walked to glory with a timing 16.35 min. Sarita Hurmade (16.37) and Sunita Sharma (17.47) came second and third respectively. Fourth place went to Manisha Shelke while Ranjana Dabhekar finished fifth. Earlier Dr. Satish Poshettiwar of Prabhakar Heart Institute and Dr Arvind Joshi, vice-principal of Dr Ambedkar College flagged off the races. North Nagpur MLA Dr Milind Mane, Dr Poshettiwar, Dr Arvind Joshi and Shiv Chhatrapati awardee Girish Gadge distributed the prizes. SJAN president Dr Ram Thakur conducted the proceedings while secretary Kishor Bagde proposed a vote of thanks.

Above 50 years men (4-km): 1. Dr Diwakar Bhoyar (Bahujan Sangharsh) 22.07 min; 2. Shridhar Burade (Maharashtra Patrakar Sangh) 26.31 min; 3. Alok Tiwari (TOI) 27.54 min; 4. Arvind Upare (Lokmat) 28.13 min; 5. Rajendraprasad Singh (Dainik Bhaskar) 29. 53 min. 
Below 50 years  men (4-km): 1. Rajesh Sharma ( Lokmat) 22.06 min; 2. Govind Hatwar (Sakal) 22.13 min; 3. Nikhil Pagey (Lokmat) 26.01 min; 4. Shashikant Rahate (TOI) 26.09 min; 5. Raviraj Ambadwar (Lokmat) 26.18 min. 
Women (2-km): 1. Ashlesha Joshi (TOI) 15.05 min; 2. Anita Shrivastava (Dainik Bhaskar) 16.23 min; 3. Sonu Wajekar (Dainik Bhaskar) 17.29 min; 4. Alka Tote (Lokmat) 18.22 min; 5. Charulata Maitra (TOI) 18.30 min. 
Family women (2-km): 1. Ranjana Gondane (16.35); 2. Sarita Hurmade (16.37); 3. Sunita Sharma (17.47 min); 4. Manisha Shelke (18.69 min)5. Ranjana Dabhekar (19.01 min).
