Raut wins twin carrom titles

KUNAL Raut of Mahasagar claimed twin titles in the Ankur Seeds Carrom Tournament organised by Nagpur Press Club and Sports Journalists Association of Nagpur at Press Club, Civil Lines on Sunday.

Raut, playing his maiden media tournament, emerged champion in singles as well as doubles categories. In the doubles, Raut partnered Vinod Suryawanshi to wrest the title.

Raut was in top form in the summit clash and blanked Vijay Thakur of RNO News Agency 25-0. For the third place, former champion Lokmat’s Pankaj Najpande defeated Lokhande of The Hitavada) by an identical margin.

In the doubles final, Raut-Suryawanshi proved their supremacy winning the final against Lokmat’s pair of Najpande and Chittaranjan Nagdeote 25-8. 

For the third place,: The Hitavada’s Paritosh Pramanik-Nasim Sheikh got the better of Mahesh Sarangi-Manish Shriwas of Navbharat 25-8.

The prize distribution function was graced by Vimala R, District Collector, Nagpur. Vishal Umalkar, Executive Director, Ankur Seeds was the guest of honour.

Press Club President Pradip Kumar Maitra, Secretary Bramhashankar Tripathi, SJAN President Dr Ram Prakash, Secretary Paritosh Pramanik, Tournament Convenor Charudatta Kahu also shared the dais. 

Dr Thakur conducted the programme while Pramanik proposed a vote of thanks.

Carrom meet beings









Trio of The Hitavada’s Paritosh Pramanik, Kartik Lokhande and Nasim Sheikh stormed into quarter-finals of the Ankur Seeds Carrom Tournament for Media Employees that got under way on Saturday at Press Club, Civil Lines.

The tournament is jointly organised by Nagpur Press Club and Sports Journalists Association of Nagpur in a joint venture with Vidarbha Carrom Association. 

Pramanik scored a facile win over Tilakchand Tembhurne of Vruttnama 24-1; Lokhande defeated Bhimrao Lonare of IBMTV9 while Sheikh thrashed Lokmat’s Wasim Qureshi 25-0 in a one-sided pre-quarter match.

Pramanik and Sheikh (The Hitavada) combined well to blank their rivals from Sandesh 25-0 to make it to the semi-finals. Other pairs to make it to the last four stage include — P Najpande-C Nagdeote (Lokmat); V Suryawanshi-K Raut (Mahasagar) and M Srivas-M Sarangi (Navbharat) who got the better of Lokhande-Chinchkhede (The Hitavada) 21-13 in a keen contest.

At the outset, chief guest Rahul Pande, State Information Commissioner, and Dilip Rodi, Director, Ankur Seeds inaugurated the competition.

Press Club President Pradip Kumar Maitra; Secretary, Bramhashankar Tripathi; SJAN President Dr Ram Thakur; Secretary, Paritosh Pramanik; Vidarbha Carrom Association Secretary Prabhjeet Singh Bachher; Tournament Convenor Charudatta Kahu also shared the dais. SJAN committee members Nilesh Deshpande, Anupam Soni, Piyush Patil, Nikhil Kelapure, Naresh Shelke and Sujan Masid were also present. 

Siddharth Narnaware is the chief referee of the tournament. 

Dr Thakur conducted the programme while Kahu proposed a vote of thanks.

District Collector Vimala R will be chief guest of the prize distribution function to be held on Sunday at 2.30 pm.

Carrom tournament for media employees begins today

NAGPUR Press Club and Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) are jointly organising Ankur Seeds 1st Carrom Tournament for Media Employees of the city from Saturday, June 18, at Nagpur Press Club, situated opposite Institute of Science, Civil Lines.

The two-day event will be inaugurated on Saturday by Rahul Pande, State Information Commissioner at 9 am .

Dilip Rodi, Director, Ankur Seeds, will be the chief guest of the inaugural function.

Press Club President Pradip Kumar Maitra, Secretary Bramhashankar Tripathi, Vice-President Joseph Rao, SJAN President Dr Ram Thakur, Secretary Paritosh Pramanik, Tournament Convenor Charudutt Kahu, Vidarbha Carrom Association Secretary Prabhjeet Singh Bachher, members of SJAN and Press Club will also remain present on the occasion.

The prize distribution ceremony will be held on June 19 at 4 pm. Nagpur District Collector Vimala R will be the chief guest.

The tournament will be officiated by technical delegates from Vidarbha Carrom Association. Siddharth Narnaware will be the chief

referee. 

Prizes worth Rs 43,000 will be on offer to the winners, runners-up and third place finishers in singles and doubles events. The winners of the singles event will get Rs 7,000 while the runners-up will get Rs 5,000. The third place finisher will get Rs 3,000. The winners in doubles category will get Rs 10,000 while the runners-up will get Rs 7,000 and third place finishers will get Rs 5,000. 

The early rounds of singles and doubles matches will be played in 6-board (25 points) format.

Whichever player/team scores 25 points first will be declared the winner. If they fail to score 25 points, the player/team with maximum points after the end of the 6th board will be declared winner.

As a precaution, the organisers have requested all participants to use face masks during the competition.

Carrom tournament for media employees on June 18-19

Nagpur Press Club and Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) are jointly organising Ankur Seeds 1st Carrom Tournament for Media Employees of the city.

The tournament will be held on June 18 and 19 at the air conditioned hall of Nagpur Press Club, situated opposite Institute of Science, Civil Lines.

Addressing a press conference, Bramhashankar Tripathi, Secretary, Nagpur Press Club said, “Members of print, electronic and digital media and portals will be allowed to take part in the competition which will be held in singles and doubles categories.”

The tournament will be inaugurated on June 18 by Maharashtra Sports Minister Sunil Kedar at 9 am.

Nagpur Press Club President Pradip Maitra, Secretary Tripathi, Vice-President Joseph Rao, SJAN President Dr Ram Thakur, Secretary and Tournament Convenor Paritosh Pramanik, Tournament Convenor Charudutt Kahu, Vidarbha Carrom Association President Prabhjeet Singh Bachher, and others will also remain present.

“The prize distribution ceremony will be held on June 19 at 4 pm. Nagpur District Guardian Minister Dr Nitin Raut will be the chief guest,” added Tripathi.

SJAN President Dr Thakur said that the tournament will be officiated by technical delegates from Vidarbha Carrom Association. Siddharth Narnaware will be the chief referee.

“This carrom tournament is just the beginning. We will try to hold more such sports events in future,” said Maitra.

The entry fee is Rs 100 for singles and Rs 200 for doubles. “Entry forms are available at Nagpur Press Club, Tilak Patrakar Bhawan and at sports desks of respective newspapers. Entries can be submitted at the Press Club or at Tilak Patrakar Bhawan. The last date of entry is June 12, 2022,” Tournament convenor Pramanik said.

“The early rounds of singles and doubles matches will be played in 6-board (25 points) format. Whichever player/team scores 25 points first will be declared the winner. If they fail to score 25 points, the player/team with maximum points after the end of the 6th board will be declared winner,” informed Pramanik, Secretary, SJAN.

“From quarter-finals, Singles and Doubles matches will be increased to 8-board (25 points),” he said.

As a precaution, the organisers have requested all participants to use face masks during the competition.

Tournament Convenor Charudutt Kahu and Joseph Rao were also present during the presser.
