Shelke, Bagde elected president, secretary of SJAN

Naresh Shelke of Marathi daily Sakal has been elected as the President of the Sports Journalists Association of Nagpur (SJAN) at the annual general meeting held on Sunday at Hotel Chidambara here in Nagpur.
Kishor Bagde of Marathi daily Lokmat was elected as the secretary of the association. The Hitavada’s Anupam Soni has been retained as the treasurer of the association. Former secretary Rahul Dixit of The Hitavada was elected as the vice-president while Paritosh Pramanik (The Hitavada) secured the joint secretary’s post.
The executive members include past president Dr Ram Thakur (Lokmat Samachar), Datta Wazalwar (Tarun Bharat), Sandep Dabhekar (Times of India) and Nilesh Deshpande (Lokmat Times).
The entire body was elected unopposed for a three-year term (2011-2014). Advocate Ashutosh Potnis was the election officer and declared the new executive body of the association.

The Hitavada's Delikar wins twin titles



Sudhir Delikar of The Hitavada won twin titles as the newspaper reigned supreme in the carrom tournament for media employees which concluded on Saturday.
Delikar defeated Lokmat’s Chittaranjan Nagdeote 18-0, 12-8 in the singles final while The Hitavada ‘A’, comprising Delikar, Paritosh Pramanik and Anupam Soni had the better of colleagues Kartik Lokhande, Ramesh Marulkar and Anil Futane 2-1 representing The Hitavada ‘B’ in the title clash.
The fourth edition of the tourney, organised by Sports Journalists Association of Nagpur, saw fourth singles champion in as many years.
The meet, sponsored by: Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Limited, was held in air-conditioned hall of Hotel Chidambara, Ramdaspeth.
The writing as on the wall when first-timer Delikar upset top seed and defending champion Pankaj Najpande of Lokmat 7-6, 13-5 in the semi-finals earlier in the morning. Delikar had a blazing start in final as he accumulated 18 points winning all the four boards in no time. Nagdeote made a semblance of a fight in the second game but it was too little and too late.
Delikar then had to play the decider third match of the team championship. He was up against seasoned campaigner and senior colleague Ramesh Marulkar. In a keenly contested battle, Delikar prevailed 10-6, 11-11 (12-11) via tie breaker. Marulkar failed to pocket the queen in his three attempts when the tie-breaker was forced as second game ended with both players scoring same points. Delikar had the coin in his third and last attempt to win the second title of the day.
The singles final would also had been an all Hitavada final but second seed Pramanik lost his way completely after winning a tough opening game 5-7. Nagdeote took the later two 15-0, 18-2.
Pramod Darne, Vice-President, Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Limited, was the chief guest of the prize distribution function. Amol Dhake, CEO, Satvik Financial Services Limited, also visited the venue. Naresh Shelke, Vice-President, SJAN, conducted the proceedings and proposed a vote of thanks. Joint Secretary Kishor Bagde made introductory remarks.

Najpande, Pramanik, Nagdevte, Delikar in semis



Hitavada ‘A’ and ‘B’, Lokmat A and Tarun Bharat too make it to last four of championship


Defending champion and top seed Pankaj Najpande (Lokmat, second seed Paritosh Pramanik, Sudhir Delikar (both The Hitavada) and Chittaranjan Nagdevte (Lokmat) stormed into the semi-finals of the 4th Tirupati Co-operative Bank Limited Carrom Tournament for Media Employees organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) on Friday at Hotel Chidambara.
In the team event, ‘The Hitavada’ ‘A’ team comprising Pramanik, Delikar and Anupam Soni too made it to the last four.
They will lock horns with ‘Lokmat’ ‘A’ consisting of Najpande, Nagdevte and Chandu Dasarwar the semis. In the other semis, Tarun Bharat (Sandip Gadge, Datta Wazalwar and Umesh Mahadeokar) will take on 'The Hitavada' B (Kartik Lokhande, Ramesh Marulkar and Anil Futane).
In the single;' quarter-final, Pramanik defeated Anil Futane in two straight games (9-3, 17-2 while Delikar got the better of Ramesh Marulkar 7-4, 13-11.
In the other quarter-final matches, defending champion ‘Lokmat’s’ Pankaj Najpande defeated ‘Tarun Bharat’s’ Sandip Gadge in exciting three games (15-3, 4-12, 16-0) while Chittaranjan Nagdevte (Lokmat) stunned Kartik Lokhande (The Hitavada) 5-12, 16-9, 21-0.
In the team event quarter-final, ‘The Hitavada’ started with a loss when Anupam Soni lost the singles match to ‘Sakal’s’ Devendra Sadavarti 0-18, 9-14. But Pramanik-Delikar pair came back roaring with a crushing win in the doubles match. They defeated the pair of Rajesh Vyahare and Nitin Naigaonkar 22-0, 22-0. In the reverse single Delikar thrashed Vyahare 17-0, 12-5 to take ‘The Hitavada’ into semis.
The semi-finals and finals in both the categories will be played on Saturday followed by prize distribution function

Top seeds sail smoothly

TOP seeds sailed smoothly on the opening day of the 4th Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Limited Carrom Tournament for Media Employees organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur at Hotel Chidambara.
Defending champion Pankaj Najpande had an easy day as he got a first round walk over against Faisul Qamar. The Hitavada’s Paritosh Pramanik, seeded second, Ramesh Marulkar, Anil Futane, Kartik Lokhande, Anjaya Anaparthi, Sudhir Delikar registered easy victories over their respective rivals. In a marathon match, The Hitavada’s Anupam Soni went down fighting to Times of India’s Rahul Soman. The match lasted for two hours and twenty minutes.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated at the hands of Sameer Meghe, Chairman, Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Limited Sandip Joshi, NMC Standing Committee chairman was the guest of honour.
SJAN president Dr Ram Thakur made introductory remark. Vice-president Naresh Shelke conducted the proceedings while joint secretary Kishor Bagde proposed a vote of thanks.
