The Hitavada's Delikar wins twin titles

Sudhir Delikar of The Hitavada won twin titles as the newspaper reigned supreme in the carrom tournament for media employees which concluded on Saturday.
Delikar defeated Lokmat’s Chittaranjan Nagdeote 18-0, 12-8 in the singles final while The Hitavada ‘A’, comprising Delikar, Paritosh Pramanik and Anupam Soni had the better of colleagues Kartik Lokhande, Ramesh Marulkar and Anil Futane 2-1 representing The Hitavada ‘B’ in the title clash.
The fourth edition of the tourney, organised by Sports Journalists Association of Nagpur, saw fourth singles champion in as many years.
The meet, sponsored by: Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Limited, was held in air-conditioned hall of Hotel Chidambara, Ramdaspeth.
The writing as on the wall when first-timer Delikar upset top seed and defending champion Pankaj Najpande of Lokmat 7-6, 13-5 in the semi-finals earlier in the morning. Delikar had a blazing start in final as he accumulated 18 points winning all the four boards in no time. Nagdeote made a semblance of a fight in the second game but it was too little and too late.
Delikar then had to play the decider third match of the team championship. He was up against seasoned campaigner and senior colleague Ramesh Marulkar. In a keenly contested battle, Delikar prevailed 10-6, 11-11 (12-11) via tie breaker. Marulkar failed to pocket the queen in his three attempts when the tie-breaker was forced as second game ended with both players scoring same points. Delikar had the coin in his third and last attempt to win the second title of the day.
The singles final would also had been an all Hitavada final but second seed Pramanik lost his way completely after winning a tough opening game 5-7. Nagdeote took the later two 15-0, 18-2.
Pramod Darne, Vice-President, Tirupati Urban Co-operative Bank Limited, was the chief guest of the prize distribution function. Amol Dhake, CEO, Satvik Financial Services Limited, also visited the venue. Naresh Shelke, Vice-President, SJAN, conducted the proceedings and proposed a vote of thanks. Joint Secretary Kishor Bagde made introductory remarks.
