Najpande wrests back title

Lokmat's Pankaj Najpande stunned second seed Nilesh Doye of Punyanagari to claim the men’s singles title in 7th Carrom Tournament for Media Employees organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) at its Vivekanand Nagar office.
In the final, Najpande outplayed Doye 18-7, 16-4. Earlier in the semis, he avenged last year’s defeat against top seed Rakesh Undirwade of Gaurav Garima by defeating him 10-4, 11-2 in a one-sided affair.
In the second semi-final, Doye downed Lokmat’s Nitin Patariya 12-4, 8-5.
Corporator Parinay Fuke was the chief guest of prize distribution function. Chief referee Siddharth Narnaware and assistant chief referee Mukund Nagpurkar shared the dais.
Veteran player Baburao Durugkar who played an important role in keeping the game alive in the city and young Irshad Ahmad who has been playing consistently well at national-level were feted by SJAN on the occasion.
SJAN president Dr Ram Thakur made introductory remarks. Secretary Kishor Bagde proposed a vote of thanks.

Rakesh Undirwade and Vinod Suryavanshi clinch doubles title

Second seed Rakesh Undirwade and Vinod Suryavanshi stunned top seed and defending champions Pankaj Najpande-Chittaranjan Nagdevte17-7, 3-8, 9-4 to clinch the doubles crown of the
7th Carrom Tournament for Media Employees organised by Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) at its Vivekanand Nagar office.

On Saturday the men's singles quarters will be played from 9 a.m. onwards. The prize distribution function will held immediately after final. Director of Orange City Hospital and Research Institute (OCHRI) Dr Anup Marar and corporator Parinay Fuke will grace the occasion. Veteran Baburao Durugkar who has played an important role in keeping the game of carrom alive in the city and young Irshad Ahmad who has been playing consistantly well at national-level will be feted by SJAN on the occasion.

Media carrom from today


Pride of place to Undirwade


Nagpur, April 16: The stage is set for the 7th Carrom Tournament for Media Employees 2014 organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) from Thursday at SJAN office, situated at Vivekanand Hindi Primary School, behind Sai Mandir, Wardha road. 
 The tournament has evoked good response. Defending champion Rakesh Undirwade of Gaurav Garima has been given top billing in the singles event. Nilesh Doye of Punyanagari has been given second seeding. In doubles, Lokmat duo Pankaj Najpande- Chittaranjan Nagdevte are top  seed while Rakesh Undirwade- Vinod Suryavanshi (Gaurav Garima) have been given second ranking. 
On Thursday, only singles matches will be played from 9.30 a.m. onwards. The doubles matches will be played on Friday. The tournament will be formally inaugurated at 11 a.m. Noted sports organiser Anil Ahirkar will be the chief guest on the occasion. Director of Reliance Developers Sanjay Dhapodkar will also grace the occasion. Siddharth Narnaware is the chief referee of the tournament and he is assisted by Mukund Nagpurkar. Cash prizes and trophies would be given to the winner, runners-up and semi-finalists in each categories.

SJAN's media carrom from April 17

Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) will be organising its seventh edition of carrom tournament for media employees from April 17 to April 19 at SJAN office, situated at Vivekanand Hindi Primary School, behind Sai Mandir, Wardha road. 
MG Wadhwani of Bhavya Builders and Developers, KS Lamba and Sons and Universal Industrial Equipment Limited are extending their support for the success of tournament. The tournament will be held in two categories i.e. men’s singles and men’s doubles event. Entry fee for men’s singles will be Rs 20 and Rs 30 for doubles, says a press release issued by SJAN secretary Kishor Bagde.The last date of entry is April 15. Entries can be confirmed with the sports desks of respective newspapers. Cash prizes and trophies would be given to the winner, runners-up and semi-finalists in each categories.Siddhart Narnaware will be the chief referee of the tournament and he will be assisted by Mukund Nagpurkar.
