Sports organisers vow to come together





On the auspicious occasion of National Sports Day which is being celebrated on birth anniversary of Hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand, the city sports organisers have vowed to come together on one platform to take up various issues related with the development of city sports .
The occasion was panel discussion organised by Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) at its Vivekanand Nagar office on Friday.
Vidarbha Hockey Association secretary Vinod Gavai, Shiv Chhatrapati awardee and secretary of Nagpur District Basketball Association Sharughna Gokhale, secretary of Maharashtra Chess Association Dilip Pagey and secretary of Nagpur District Athletic Association Dr Sharad Suryavanshi spoke on various issues and difficulties faced by the sports organisers. Finally they came to the conclusion that one common forum of the sports organisers should be formed to deal with various problems.
About hockey Vinod Gavai said lack of astro turf is major problem which the association is facing. " If Pune have astro turf, why not in Nagpur which is second capital of Maharashtra", he questioned.
Shatrughna Gokhale who is also  the member of  Maharashtra government's sports policy committee said government has lot of schemes but the actual beneficiaries are unaware about it. Joint efforts needed so that sportspersons should avail the benefits of it.
Dilip Pagey pointed out various flaws in government's sports policies and said efforts should be made to bring some changes in the policies. Dr Suryavanshi lamented over the lack of collective efforts and infrastructure for athletes in the city.
Earlier the dignitaries garlanded the portrait of Major Dhyan Chand. SJAN president Dr Ram Thakur conducted the proceedings while secretary Kishor Bagde proposed a vote of thanks.
