Tulsiramji Gaikwad-Patil Memorial Nagpur District Sub-Junior Open Badminton tournament from November 12 to 15







The Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN), under the auspices of Nagpur District Badminton Association (NDBA), is organising Tulsiramji Gaikwad-Patil Memorial District Open Sub-Junior Badminton tournament from November 12 to 15.
The venue for the four-day tourney will be announced later.
Boys and girls will vie for top honours in ten events in three age categories – Under-10, Under-13 and Under-15. In the U-13 and U-15 section, doubles events will also be held.
Dr Mohan Gaikwad, chairman of Gaikwad Patil Group, said he is always ready to help sports.
“I love sports and want to do lot of things for the development of sports. Our Group has been sponsoring badminton and chess tournaments regularly in the region. I am happy to to be associated with the SJAN in sponsoring the district badminton tournament. Last year was a great success and I am sure this year will be even more successful. This is our second year and I would like to be associated with this tournament in the years to come,” said Dr Mohan Gaikwad.
The NDBA will provide the technical support to the tournament. NDBA secretary Mr Mangesh Kashikar is happy that SJAN has taken initiative to conduct one district open tournament.
Leading badminton equipment company Yonex will provide the shuttles, while prizes will be sponsored by SNDL Nagpur.
Entry forms will be displayed on the NDBA website (www.ndbasso.in) and all the players will have to fill the entry forms online, said SJAN secretary Kishor Bagde. Entry closes on November 5.
SJAN president Dr Ram Thakur has appealed to all the players to participate in the tournament in large numbers.

Ambedkar Law Deekshabhoomi win SJAN debate contest






Dr Ambedkar Law College, Deekshabhoomi won the Inter-College Debate Competition organised by Sports Journalists' Association of NAgpur (SJAN) in association with Dr Ambedkar College, Deeksshabhoomi on Wednesday
The topic of the competition was 'Indian sportspersons prefer personal glory over country'. The participants,  citing the examples of Hockey Wizard Major Dhyan Chand, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Gautam Gahbhir, tennis player Sania Mirza, wrestler Sushil Kumar etc,  expressed the mixed views over the topic. Ultimately Dr Ambedkar Law College team comprising Shweta Parsodkar and Rasika Bangre emerged the winner with 237 points. Last year's champion Dhanwate National College (DNC) team comprising Ravindra Gunde and Badal Shrirame finished runners-up with 215 points. Institute of Science represented by Bhakti Datarkar and Shweta Chourey achieved third place with 187 points. Utkarsha Rathi fo Ramdeobaba Engineering College got consolation prize. 
Principal of Dr Ambedkar College, Deekshabhoomi Dr Prakash Kharat distributed the prizes. Former Vidarbha cricketer Rajan Nair,  announcer in Akashwani Shraddha Bharadwaj  and senior  sports journalist Suhas Nayse were the judges. SJAN president Dr Ram Thakur conduced the proceedings and proposed a vote of thanks. Prof. DS Borkar and his team worked hard under the guidance of vice-principal Dr Arvind Joshi for the success of event.
