Dr Ambedkar Law College, Deekshabhoomi won the Inter-College Debate Competition organised by Sports Journalists' Association of NAgpur (SJAN) in association with Dr Ambedkar College, Deeksshabhoomi on Wednesday.
The topic of the competition was 'Indian sportspersons prefer personal glory over country'. The participants, citing the examples of Hockey Wizard Major Dhyan Chand, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Gautam Gahbhir, tennis player Sania Mirza, wrestler Sushil Kumar etc, expressed the mixed views over the topic. Ultimately Dr Ambedkar Law College team comprising Shweta Parsodkar and Rasika Bangre emerged the winner with 237 points. Last year's champion Dhanwate National College (DNC) team comprising Ravindra Gunde and Badal Shrirame finished runners-up with 215 points. Institute of Science represented by Bhakti Datarkar and Shweta Chourey achieved third place with 187 points. Utkarsha Rathi fo Ramdeobaba Engineering College got consolation prize.
Principal of Dr Ambedkar College, Deekshabhoomi Dr Prakash Kharat distributed the prizes. Former Vidarbha cricketer Rajan Nair, announcer in Akashwani Shraddha Bharadwaj and senior sports journalist Suhas Nayse were the judges. SJAN president Dr Ram Thakur conduced the proceedings and proposed a vote of thanks. Prof. DS Borkar and his team worked hard under the guidance of vice-principal Dr Arvind Joshi for the success of event.
