Gurbani clinches triple crowns






ONCE again reasserting his dominance on the badminton court, upcoming shuttler Rohan Gurbani clinched three crowns in the Tulsiramji Gaikwad-Patil Memorial District Sub-Junior badminton Tournament, organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) in association with Nagpur District Badminton Association (NDBA) at Subhedar Hall, on Saturday.
Gurbani and double crown winner Arya Anchalwar were declared as best players of the tournament and were awarded special cash prize of Rs 2,000 each.
Gurbani clinched Under-13 boys singles title defeating arch-rival Sudhanshu Bhure 21-13, 21-11. Then in doubles, Gurbani-Bhure duo got the better of Jaskaran Suri/Shrinivas Saoji 22-20, 21-16.
Gurbani added another feather to his cap securing U-15 doubles crown. Pairing with Bhure, Gurbani quelled the challenge of Gaurav Mithe-Samarjit Pande 21-14, 21-18.
In the Under-13 girls final, Arya Anchalwar got rid of Livia Fernandez 21-10, 21-13. In the doubles, Arya and her partner Livia defeated Saee Jamdar-Sara Pandey 21-12, 21-11.
However in the Under-15 doubles final, Anjali Kshirsagar-Shreya Arora shocked top seed Arya /Livia 12-21, 21-18, 21-14 in a tough battle.
Malvika Bansod won the Under-15 girls singles title defeating Pavitra Somani 21-5, 21-10.
In an exciting tie, Gaurav Mithe staged a spectacular comeback to topple Samarjeet Pandey 12-21, 21-10, 21-9 for Under-15 boys singles crown.
Siddhant Bawankar and Nikkita Joseph bagged Under-10 boys singles and girls titles, respectively.
Director of Gaikwad-Patil group Dr Anjali Gaikwad, ace badminton player Arundhati Pantawane, HR head of SNDL Sanjiv Bariar and NDBA joint secretary Naresh Chafekar distributed the prizes.
SJAN president Dr Ram Thakur made introductory remarks and also proposed a vote of thanks.

SJAN- Gaikwad Patil badminton tourney begins










 Tulsiramji Gaikwad-Patil Memorial District Open Sub-Junior Badminton Tournament organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) in association with Nagpur District Badminton Association (NDBA) began at RTM Nagpur University’s Subhedar Hall on Wednesday. 
 Chairman of Gaikwad Patil Group Dr Mohan Gaikwad inaugurated the tournament. Dipanshu Khirwadkar of SNDL, director of Nagpur University's Physical Education Department Dr Dhananjay Welukar and  NDBA secretary Mangesh Kashikar also graced the function.  
Speaking on the occasion Dr Gaikwad assured the SJAN that Gaikwad Patil Group will continue to sponsor the tournament in the future also. Dr Welukar urged the badminton playes to utilise the newly-laid wooden badminton court properly. Kashikar and Khirwadkar also spoke on the occasion. 
SJAN president Dr Ram Thakur conducted the proceedings. Member Piyush Patil conducted the proceedings while treasurer Suhas Nayse proposed a vote of thanks.

SJAN- Gaikwad Patil badminton from today

Tulsiramji Gaikwad-Patil Memorial District Open Sub-Junior Badminton tournament will get underway at Nagpur University’s Subhedar Hall on Wednesday. The four-day tourney is being organised by the Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) under the auspices of Nagpur District Badminton Association (NDBA).

Dr Mohan Gaikwad, chairman of Gaikwad Patil Group, will be the chief guest of the inauguration function. Sonal Khurana, SNDL Business head, will be the guest of honour. Dr Dhananjay Welukar, Director of Nagpur University's Physical Education Department, and Mangesh Kashikar, NDBA Secretary, will be the dignitaries gracing the function which will be held at 3 pm at Subhedar Hall. Matches will begin after the inauguration function.

Boys and girls will vie for top honours in ten events in three age categories – Under-10, Under-13 and Under-15. In the U-13 and U-15 section, doubles events will also be held. Huge response from players has been a feature of the tournament since its inception last year. This year too a record 409 entries have been received. Leading badminton equipment company Yonex will provide the shuttles, while prizes will be sponsored by SNDL Nagpur.

Gaikwad-Patil SJAN Nagpur Dist Sub-Junior Badminton at Subhedar Hall

The Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN), under the auspices of Nagpur District Badminton Association (NDBA), is organising Tulsiramji Gaikwad-Patil Memorial District Open Sub-Junior Badminton tournament from November 12 to 15 at Nagpur University’s Subhedar Hall.
The venue for the four-day tourney was finalized on Monday after the SJAN delegation met Dhananjay Welukar, director of physical education and sports, Nagpur University.
Welukar assured that the remaining work of the Subhedar Hall will be completed before November 8.
Boys and girls will vie for top honours in ten events in three age categories – Under-10, Under-13 and Under-15. In the U-13 and U-15 section, doubles events will also be held. Entry closes on November 5 (Wednesday).
Leading badminton equipment company Yonex will provide the shuttles, while prizes will be sponsored by SNDL Nagpur.
