Tulsiramji Gaikwad-Patil Memorial District Open Sub-Junior Badminton tournament will get underway at Nagpur University’s Subhedar Hall on Wednesday. The four-day tourney is being organised by the Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) under the auspices of Nagpur District Badminton Association (NDBA).
Dr Mohan Gaikwad, chairman of Gaikwad Patil Group, will be the chief guest of the inauguration function. Sonal Khurana, SNDL Business head, will be the guest of honour. Dr Dhananjay Welukar, Director of Nagpur University's Physical Education Department, and Mangesh Kashikar, NDBA Secretary, will be the dignitaries gracing the function which will be held at 3 pm at Subhedar Hall. Matches will begin after the inauguration function.
Boys and girls will vie for top honours in ten events in three age categories – Under-10, Under-13 and Under-15. In the U-13 and U-15 section, doubles events will also be held. Huge response from players has been a feature of the tournament since its inception last year. This year too a record 409 entries have been received. Leading badminton equipment company Yonex will provide the shuttles, while prizes will be sponsored by SNDL Nagpur.
