SJAN-Raisoni annual sports awards distributed

3 'Ds' the formula of success: Padukone







While guiding the budding sportspersons Indian badminton legend Prakash Padukone said to exel in any sports discipline 3 'Ds' i.e. Discipline, Dedication and Determination is the formula of success.
He was speaking during SJAN-Raisoni Achievers annual award function jointly organised by Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur and Raisoni Group at a city hotel of Sunday.
The chairman of Raisoni Group Sunil Raisoni presided over the function. Joint MD of Baidyanath Group Suresh Sharma, Deputy Zonal manager of Bank of Maharashtra Anand Kothiwan were the guest of honour.
Former Indina shuttler further said, " To become outstanding sporspeson one has to make lot of sacrifices. It is very difficult  to maintain a balance  between games and academics. Therefore the players has to become expert in time management also.
Padukone who won the national badminton title at the age of just 16 said today's younger generation is quite lucky. They have lot of opportunities and the only need is to grab them. There  was a time when only cricketers used to excel but now the situation has changed. He said now the Central government has also become serious about sports and sportspersons and lot of private foundations and corporates are also coming forward for sports promotion and that is a good sign for development of  sports.

Padukone who claimed first All England Championship title for the country in 1980 gave some advise to the sports federations also. He said they should learn something from Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCC) who has populasied the game amongst the masses through the marketing. Instead of criticising BCCI, the sports federation should follow them to spread their game.
On the occasion Padukone and other dignitaries honours Indian woman cricketer Mona Meshram (GH Raisoni Trophy for best senior sportswoman),  Vidarbha Ranji cricketer Lalit Yadav (GH Raisoni Trophy for best senior sportsman),  budding chess player Raunak Sadhwani (GH Raisoni Trophy for best junior sportsman),  talented Shuttler Malvika Bansod (Baidyanath Trophy for best junior sportswoman)  noted sports organiser Dr Babanrao Taywade (Meeradevi Dasture Trophy for best sports organiser), RS Mundle Dharampeth Arts and Commerce College (KC Bajaj Trophy for sports promotion) and Swaminarayan School (Centre Point School Trophy for sports promotion).
SJAN president Kishor Bagde and secretary Sandeep Dabhekar shared the dais. Dr Ram Thakur conducted the proceedings and Satish Dandare proposed a vote of thanks. SJAN treasurer Suhas Nayse, vice-president Nilesh Deshpande and other members worked hard for the success of programme.

SJAN Annual Awards

 

 SJAN to fete Lalit, Mona, Raunak,
Malvika and Taywade on Nov 5

 



Vidarbha pacer Lalit Yadav, Indian woman cricketer Mona Meshram, promising chess player Raunak Sadhwani, budding badminton player Malvika Bansod and noted sports organiser Babanrao Taywade will be honoured by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) and Raisoni Group of Institutions during the annual awards function on November 5 at Hotel Centre Point, Ramdaspeth.

SJAN’s annual award function will be attended by badminton legend Prakash Padukone. Chairman of Raisoni Group Sunil Raisoni will preside over the function. MLA Sameer Meghe, Suresh Sharma of Baidyanath, DGM of Bank of Maharashtra Anand Kothiwan will also grace the function.

Besides individual sportspersons, Swamiranayan School and RS Mundle Dharampeth College will be awarded for their contributions to the field of sports.

Lalit, who is the quickest in Vidarbha after his idol Umesh Yadav, has taken 30 wickets at an impressive average of 21.93 with the help of three five-wicket hauls in his maiden season in 2016-17. His five-wicket hauls came against former champions Karnataka and Rajasthan and former runners-up Maharashtra. Lalit will get GH Raisoni Trophy for best senior sportsman.

Mona, an Indian batsmwoman, was a part of the Indian team that reached the final of the 2017 Women's Cricket World Cup where the team lost to England by nine runs. She will receive GH Raisoni Trophy for best senior sportswoman.

Raunak made headlines when at the 2016 National Juniors (Under-19) he finished third ahead of many competitors who were nearly twice his age. He won the bronze medal at under-10 Asian Youth 2015 in South Korea. At the Commonwealth Under-10 gold medal at New Delhi, 2015. He will be honoured with GH Raisoni Trophy for Best Junior Sportsperson.

Malvika Bansod started the season winning both U-17 and U-19 girl’s singles titles at Karad in the Maharashtra Junior State Badminton Championship. She became the first girl from Maharashtra to win two singles titles in a single tournament. She repeated the record breaking feat at Nagpur in July. Maharashtra Badminton Association had sent her to Indonesia for advanced training camp. She represented India in Junior Asian Championship and Junior World Championship. She will receive Baidyanath Trophy for best junior female player.

Taywade will be honoured with Meeradevi Dasture Trophy for promoting sports. Taywade played a key role in developing infrastructure for sports at Dhanwate National College and Taywade College of Physical Education in Koradi. He is at the helm of affairs in various sporting bodies. Under his guidance DNC has been organising Inter-College Sports Festival for last several years.

Swaminarayan School will receive Centre Point School trophy for the promotion of sports. RS Mundle Dharampeth College will get KC Bajaj Memorial Trophy for their services to the sports.

SJAN celebrates International Sports Journalists's Day




TOI-B penalty kick champion


To mark the occasion of International Sports Journalists' Day, Sports Journalists Association of Nagpur (SJAN) organised penalty kick competition for media persons at RTM Nagpur University football ground on Sunday.
The event evoked good response as 16 teams participated in the competition with lot of enthusiasm. The Times of India 'B' team comprising Sandeep Dabhekar, Anjaya Anaprthy and Dharmendra Kumar emerged champion defeating TOI-MT 4-3. The runners-up team was represented by Suhas Nayse, Piyush Patil and Sarang Kunte.
Earlier in the semis, TOI 'B' defeated Dainik Bhaskar whereas TOI-MT overcame  TOI 'C'. Director of Department of Physical Education of RTM Nagpur University Dr Kalpana Jadhav distributed the cash prizes. SJAN president Kishor Bagde also shared the dais.  Big Ben Football Club extended the technical support for the event.

नागपूर, अत्यंत अटीटतटीच्या सामन्यात सुहास नायसेवर मात करीत गतविजेत्या आशिष जैनने एसजेएएन-गायकवाड पाटील इंटरनॅशनल स्कूल मीडिया बॅडमिंटन स्पर्धेतील पुरुष एकेरीचे विजेतेपद पटकावले. महिला एकेरीमध्ये राखी चव्हाण, पुरुष दुहेरीमध्ये सुहास नायसे-फक्रुद्दीन बोहरा तर मिश्र दुहेरीमध्ये आशिष जैन-प्रज्ञा बॅनर्जी अजिंक्य ठरले.

स्पोर्टस् जर्नालिस्टस् असोसिएशन ऑफ नागपूर (एसजेएएन) आणि धनवटे नॅशनल कॉलेज यांच्या संयुक्त विद्यमाने ही स्पर्धा आयोजित करण्यात आली होती.

धनवटे नॅशनल कॉलेजच्या इन्डोअर स्टेडियममध्ये झालेला आशिष जैन आणि सुहास नायसे यांच्यातील सामना रोमांचक ठरला. पहिल्या सेटमध्ये पराभूत झाल्यानंतर गतविजेत्या आशिष जैनने दमदार पुनरागमन करीत उर्वरीत दोन सेटमध्ये विजय मिळवून विजेतेपदावर शिक्कामोर्तब केले. आशिष जैनचे हे एसजेएएन मीडिया बॅडमिंटन स्पर्धेतील सलग दुसरे विजेतेपद ठरले. तत्पूर्वी, उपांत्य फेरीच्या सामन्यात तिसऱ्या मानांकित सुजन मसीदविरुद्ध चांगलाच संघर्ष करावा लागला. मात्र, सरस खेळ करत जैनने मसीदला पराभूत केले. दुसऱ्या उपांत्य सामन्यात सुहास नायसेने फक्रुद्दीन बोहराला नमवले.

महिला एकेरीच्या सामन्यात राखी चव्हाणने पूजा लोहेचा सहज पराभव करीत विजेतेपदावर नाव कोरले. पुरुष दुहेरीमध्ये सुहास नायसे-फक्रुद्दीन बोहरा जोडीने आशिष जैन-रविराज अंबडवार यांचा तीन सेटमध्ये पराभव केला. तर मिश्र दुहेरीमध्ये आशिष जैन-प्रज्ञा बॅनर्जी जोडीने सुहास नायसे-प्रिती यादव जोडीवर मात केली.

धनवटे नॅशनल कॉलेजचे प्राचार्य डॉ. बबनराव तायवाडे आणि गायकवाड पाटील इंटरनॅशनल स्कूलच्या प्राचार्य शबीह चौरासिया यांच्या प्रमुख उपस्थितीत बक्षीस वितरण पार पडला. यावेळी मंचावर एसजेएएनचे अध्यक्ष किशोर बागडे आणि सचिव संदीप धाबेकर उपस्थित होते. कार्यक्रमाचे संचालन डॉ. राम ठाकूर यांनी केले.

स्पोर्टस् जर्नालिस्ट्स असोसिएशन ऑफ नागपूर (एसजेएएन) आणि धनवटे नॅशनल कॉलेज यांच्या संयुक्त विद्यमाने आयोजित गायकवाड-पाटील इंटरनॅशनल स्कूल-एसजेएएन मीडिया बॅडमिंटन स्पर्धेला शनिवारपासून सुरुवात झाली. धनवटे नॅशनल कॉलेजच्या इन्डोअर स्टेडियममध्ये सुरू असलेल्या या स्पर्धेच्या पहिल्या दिवशी विविध गटातील मानांकित खेळाडूंनी सहज विजय नोंदवले.

पुरुष एकेरीमध्ये तिसऱ्या मानांकित सुजन मसीदने रोशन तांबोळीचा ३३-९ असा पराभव केला. तर चौथ्या मानांकित रविराज अंबडवारने सातव्या मानांकित धर्मेद्र कुमारचा ३०-८ असा आणि आठव्या मानांकित संदीप वर्धने याने आविष्कार देशमुखचा ३०-२१ असा पराभव करीत पुढील फेरीत प्रवेश केला. महिला एकेरीमध्ये द्वितीय मानांकित राखी चव्हाणने दिव्यश्री मुजुमदारवर ३०-११ अशी सहज मात केली. पुरुष दुहेरीमध्ये तृतीय मानांकित सुबोध रत्नपारखी-संदीप वर्धने जोडीने अभिषेक अयंगार-कैलाश कुकरेजा जोडीचा ३०-२४ असा पराभव केला. 

तत्पूर्वी, भारतीय बॅडमिंटन संघाचे सदस्य आणि माजी राष्ट्रीय चॅम्पियन अक्षय देवलकर यांच्या हस्ते स्पर्धेचे उद्घाटन झाले. यावेळी गायकवाड-पाटील ग्रुपचे चेअरमन मोहन गायकवाड, धनवटे नॅशनल कॉलेजचे प्राचार्य डॉ. बबनराव तायवाडे आणि गायकवाड-पाटील इंटरनॅशन स्कूलचे प्राचार्या शबीह चौरासिया, एसजेएएनचे अध्यक्ष किशोर बागडे आणि धनवटे नॅशनल कॉलेजचे क्रीडा विभाग प्रमुख देवेंद्र वानखेडे प्रामुख्याने मंचावर उपस्थित होते. कार्यक्रमाचे संचालन डॉ. राम ठाकूर यांनी तर आभार प्रदर्शन सुहास नायसे यांनी केले.
