3 'Ds' the formula of success: Padukone
While guiding the budding sportspersons Indian badminton legend Prakash Padukone said to exel in any sports discipline 3 'Ds' i.e. Discipline, Dedication and Determination is the formula of success.
He was speaking during SJAN-Raisoni Achievers annual award function jointly organised by Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur and Raisoni Group at a city hotel of Sunday.
The chairman of Raisoni Group Sunil Raisoni presided over the function. Joint MD of Baidyanath Group Suresh Sharma, Deputy Zonal manager of Bank of Maharashtra Anand Kothiwan were the guest of honour.
Former Indina shuttler further said, " To become outstanding sporspeson one has to make lot of sacrifices. It is very difficult to maintain a balance between games and academics. Therefore the players has to become expert in time management also.
Padukone who won the national badminton title at the age of just 16 said today's younger generation is quite lucky. They have lot of opportunities and the only need is to grab them. There was a time when only cricketers used to excel but now the situation has changed. He said now the Central government has also become serious about sports and sportspersons and lot of private foundations and corporates are also coming forward for sports promotion and that is a good sign for development of sports.
Padukone who claimed first All England Championship title for the country in 1980 gave some advise to the sports federations also. He said they should learn something from Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCC) who has populasied the game amongst the masses through the marketing. Instead of criticising BCCI, the sports federation should follow them to spread their game.
On the occasion Padukone and other dignitaries honours Indian woman cricketer Mona Meshram (GH Raisoni Trophy for best senior sportswoman), Vidarbha Ranji cricketer Lalit Yadav (GH Raisoni Trophy for best senior sportsman), budding chess player Raunak Sadhwani (GH Raisoni Trophy for best junior sportsman), talented Shuttler Malvika Bansod (Baidyanath Trophy for best junior sportswoman) noted sports organiser Dr Babanrao Taywade (Meeradevi Dasture Trophy for best sports organiser), RS Mundle Dharampeth Arts and Commerce College (KC Bajaj Trophy for sports promotion) and Swaminarayan School (Centre Point School Trophy for sports promotion).
SJAN president Kishor Bagde and secretary Sandeep Dabhekar shared the dais. Dr Ram Thakur conducted the proceedings and Satish Dandare proposed a vote of thanks. SJAN treasurer Suhas Nayse, vice-president Nilesh Deshpande and other members worked hard for the success of programme.
