Pravin Lokhande continued his good form to notch up another unbeaten half-century as The Hitavada thrashed Sakaal by eight wickets in their last league match of the 11th Orange City Hospital Cup inter-press cricket tournament organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur at Central Railways ground, Ajni.
The Hitavada’s win put them on top of Group B. Lokmat too scored a huge 154-run win over Tarun Bharat at Dr Ambedkar College ground to top Group A.
The Hitavada’s bowlers kept things tight from the start which choked Sakaal’s run-scoring. Medium-pacer Vijay Choure (4-0-9-1) started off well which was carried over by Nikhil Dixit (4-0-19-1) and later by left-arm spinner Ramamurti Nerle (4-0-14-3). Despite Kishor Jamkar’s 61-ball 64 (8x4, 1x6) Sakaal could manage only 104 for five in 20 overs.
The Hitavada lost two early wickets but Lokhande (56*; 40b, 7x4, 1x6) and Nikhil Dixit (29*; 33b, 3x4) came together for an unbroken 97-run stand to give their team a facile win in 15 overs. Man of the Match Lokhande had scored an unbeaten hundred in the last game.

Dhande hammers a cracking unbeaten ton

In the other match of the day, Pawan Dhande hammered a cracking 100 not out to give Lokmat a huge 234 for three in 20 overs.
Dhande’s innings came in 54 balls and included 13 hits to the fence. Amit Khodke supported the cause with a quick 58 off 26 balls. He hit eight fours and a six. Nitin Pataria (34; 15b, 3x4, 2x6) was the other run-getter.
Tarun Bharat’s Roshan Tamboli took two for 52.
In reply Tarun Bharat were bundled out for 80 in 18.4 overs. Ashish Budholiya took three for 19 while Gitesh Wanjari and Man of the Match Dhande took two wickets each.
Thursday’s fixture: Navbharat vs Punyanagari at Ajni (9 am).
