Pt Bachcharaj Vyas Vidyalaya reign supreme

Inter-school debate competition

CPS finish runners-up, SoS third

For some, cricket is a religion but many see it only as a way to stardom and money. Though it is true that there is an overkill of cricket, it has become an integral part of life considering its professionalism and popularity. It’s upto the players suffering from injuries to decide whether to participate in tournaments or opt for rest. This was the tone of the debate where the pros and cons of cricket and its overdose were discussed threadbare by students of various schools.
The occasion was the Inter-School Invitational Debate Competition on ‘Overkill of Cricket’ organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) in association with Tapovan School at Sanskritik Sabhagruh, Pande Layout on Monday.
Pandit Bachcharaj Vyas Vidyalaya’s team comprising Ahilya Deshmukh and Ajinkya Mude bagged the first prize while Centre Point School Katol Road team consisting Priyanka Buty and Anushree Soni emerged runners-up. School of Scholars team of Rakshika Kosare and Shubham Jichkar finished third in the competition.
RS Mundle English Medium School team including Riya Thakre and Bhavna Sharnagat got the special prize from SJAN.
Ahilya Deshmukh, Priyanka Buty, Rakshika Kosare and Bhavna Sharnagat spoke in favour of topic while Ajinkya Mude, Anushree Soni, Shubham Jichkar and Riya Thakre debated against the topic.
Total 11 schools participated in the competition that saw healthy discussion on the game and its effects. The judges were former Vidarbha Ranji captain Praveen Hinganikar, and senior announcer of All India Radio Shraddha Bharadwaj.
Earlier, President of Swagat Educational and Cultural Society Advocate Arvind Kulkarni inaugurated the competition.
Editor of ‘The Hitavada’ Vijay Phanshikar distributed the prizes. SJAN President Naresh Shelke, Hinganikar and Bharadwaj also shared the dais.
Dr Ram Thakur conducted the proceedings while Headmistress of Tapovan School Nandini Sahasrabuddhe proposed a vote of thanks.
