The
stage is set for the 17th edition of Allahabad Bank-SJAN Inter-Press
Cricket Tournament beginning at Dr Ambedkar College ground on Saturday
at 9.30 a.m.
The Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur
(SJAN) has organised the tournament. This year to mark its completion of
150 years, Allahabad Bank has sponsored the tournament. Motion
Tutorials are the co-sponsor. Zonal head of Allahabad Bank K Murali
Krishna will inaugurate the tournament at 9 a.m. Director of Motion
Pramod Walmandhre, vice-principal of Dr Ambedkar College, Deekshabhoomi
Dr Arvind Joshi and Yashwant Kerhalkar of Yash Group will also grace the
occasion.
In all ten teams are participating in the
tournament and they have been divided in two groups. Group A include
defending champion Lokmat, The Times of India, Deshonnati, Dainik
Bhaskar and Indian-Express Loksatta. Group B consist last year's
runners-up Sakal, Punyanagari, Tarun Bharat, Lokshahi Varta and The
Hitavada. Two top teams from each group will qualify for the semis. The
final will be played on January 15 at Ambedkar College ground.
Earlier
on Friday, CricMedia, the annual souvenir of Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN), was released at a function held at SJAN's
office. K Murali Krishna and director of Reliance Developers Sanjay
Dhapodkar were the dignitaries present on the occasion. SJAN president
Dr Ram Thakur made introductory remarks while secretary Kishor Bagde
conducted the proceedings and also proposed a vote of thanks.
