Lokmat off to flying start


Allahabad-SJAN Inter-Press cricket begins



Defending champion Lokmat began their campaign on winning note defeating The Times of India by 22 runs in 17th Allahabad Bank-SJAN Inter-Press Cricket Tournament organised by Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) at Ambedkar College ground on Saturday. 
Batting first Lokmat scored a challenging total of 157 losing six wickets in 20 overs. Devendra Sadavarti who was later adjudged as man-of-the-match top scored with 35 hitting two boundaries. Skipper Amit Khodke scored quickfire 30 with the help of five boundaries. Khodke and Nitin Patariya (26) made 56 run partnership for second wicket after the departure of Sharad Mishra on duck. 
Nitin Shriwas also batted well and scored 23. For TOI, Piyush Patil claimed three wickets for 16 runs. 
In reply, TOI were restricted to 135 for eight in 20 overs. Subodh Ratnaparkhi (38) and Suhas Nayse (24) gave them good start making 57 run partnership for first wicket but then other batsmen failed to keep the momentum. For Lokmat Sharad Mishra (4 for 14) was the most successful bowler. He was ably supported by Devendra Sadavarti and Nitin Patariya snaring two wickets each. 
Earlier zonal head of Allahabad Bank K Murali Krishna inaugurated the tournament.director of Motion Pramod Walmandhre, vice-principal of Dr Ambedkar College Dr Arvind Joshi, Yashwant Kerhalkar of Yash Group and others were also present on the occasion. SJAN president Dr Ram Thakur and secretary Kishor Bagde also shared the dais. 
Brief scores: Lokmat 157 for 6 in 20 overs (Devendra Sadavarti 35, Amit Khodke 30, Nitin Patariya 26, Piyush Patil 3 for 16). 
TOI: 135 for 8 in 20 overs (Subodh Ratnaparkhi 38, Suhas Nayse 24, Rupesh Bhaik 19, Sharad Mishra 4 for 14, Devendra Sadavarti 2 for 24, Nitin Patariya 2 for 29).
Sunday's fixtures: Sakal vs The Hitavada (Ambedkar College), Punyanagari vs Lokshahi Varta (Vasant Nagar). Both matches will start at 9.30 a.m.
