The Hitavada to take on Punyanagari in opener


INTER-PRESS CRICKET BEGINS ON JAN 5

The 12th Orange City Hospital Cup Inter-Press Invitational Twenty20 Cricket Tournament will get under way on Tuesday at Central Railways’ new ground at Ajni. The inauguration function will be held at 8.30 am following which defending champion The Hitavada will take on Punyanagari in the opening encounter. The tournament is being organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN).
Orange City Hospital and Research Institute (OCHRI) are the sponsors of the meet. Total eight teams are participating in the tournament, divided in two pools. Pool ‘A’ includes The Hitavada, Loksatta, Sakal and Punyanagari while pool ‘B’ consists of Lokmat, Tarun Bharat, Times of India and Dainik Bhaskar.
Only one match will be played on the inaugural day. From January 6 to January 10 first round matches will be played simultaneously at Ajni and Dr Ambedkar College ground from 9 am onwards.
The second round matches will be played from January 13 to 16. The semi-finals will be held on January 18 and 19 at Ambedkar College ground followed by final on January 21 at the same venue.
Udaybhaskar Nair, Chairman, Nairsons, will inaugurate the tournament. The special guests on the occasion will be Dr Anup Marar, Director, Orange City Hospital and Research Institute, Saurabh Tayal, Chairman, KSL & Industries, Sudhir Dabir, President, Vidarbha Cricket Association and Ashish Mehrotra, Divisional Sports Officer, Central Railways, Nagpur.
The T20 event will be played with black sight-screen, coloured clothing and white Wisden County balls.
Empress City, Deepak Agencies and Sahasrabudhe Sports have joined hands with SJAN to make the event successful.
