SUBODH Ratanparkhi’s responsible unbeaten 63 coupled with some disciplined bowling from his bowlers resulted in Times of India (ToI) thrashing Sakal by six wickets in the super six match of the 12th Orange City Hospital Cup Inter-Press Invitational Twenty20 Cricket Tournament at Ajni ground on Friday.
With wickets falling around him, Ratanparkhi downed his anchor and held one fort to romp his team home in just the 16th over. Sakal’s fielding once again came under scanner with the fielders dropping some fairly easy chances.
Chasing a modest 121 set Sakal after opting to bat first, ToI lost opener Suhas Nayse cheaply in the second over. Ratanparkhi, though was very much in his comfort zone playing some skillful strokes. His two briefs stands—with Rupesh Bhaike (17; 14b, 4x3) and Suraj Nair (27; 30b)—guided ToI to safety. Ratanparkhi churned out six delightful hits to the fence and two sixes in his unbeaten 63-run innings which needed just 42 balls.
Sakal’s offie Balaji Iyer picked up two wickets giving away 36 runs.
Earlier, ToI bowlers led by Nair and Bhaik put up a disciplined performance to bundle out Sakal for 121 runs with seven balls to spare. Both Nair and Bhaik scalped three wickets apiece. Nayse grabbed a couple as well. Kishor Jamkar and Satish Ingole did the initial hard work but got out in the twenties.
Saturday’s fixture: The Hitavada vs Lokmat at Ajni ground. Sakal vs Loksatta at Dr Ambedkar College ground, Deekshabhoomi. Matches start at 9 am.
