Scare, win by three wickets
The Hitavada’s Pravin Lokhande (117, 61b; 13x4, 5x6) struck a hurricane century as the nine-time champions started their campaign in the SJAN-OCHRI 14th inter-press cricket tournament with a huge 92 runs win over Dainik Bhaskar at Vasant Nagar ground.
The hard-hitting batsmen started cautiously but changed his gears after completing his half century as The Hitavada posted 202 from 20 overs after electing to bat first. Lokhande walked in the middle quite early after the departure of opener Pratik Sontakke. It was all Lokhande show after that as he hit the ball to all parts of the field with brute power.
It was a tough time for Dainik Bhaskar bowlers as none was spared from Lokhande’s storm. The other run scorers for The Hitavada were Rahul Dixit (18) Pawan Sawade (18) and Nikhil Dixit (12).
The target of 203 was always difficult to chase for Dainik Bhaskar. In an attempt to accelerate their innings, Dainik Bhaskar lost quick wickets and managed to gather 109 runs from 20 overs losing nine wickets. For The Hitavada, spinners Rammurti Nerlay and Piyush Patil took two wickets each while captain Susheem Kolay and Rahul Dixit took one each.
In another match played at Dr Ambedkar College ground, Lokmat managed to scrape past Tarun Bharat to a three-wicket win with the winning run coming in the last over.
Tarun Bharat posted 142 from 20 overs. Roshan Tamboli (42), Nitin Baitule (35) Mannu Bawa (20) were the main scorers. For Lokmat, Vivek Vyavhare and Nitin Pataria took two wickets each.
