‘Lokmat’ inch closer to semis
‘LOKSHAHI Varta’s Abhiskeh Kulkarni’s fighting half-century went in vain as ‘Lokmat’ defeated them by five wickets in a Super Six match of the 15th SJAN-OCHRI Inter-Press Cricket Tournament organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur.
‘Lokshahi Varta’ were in trouble right from the beginning as they lost both the openers with only five runs on the board. They managed 96 from 20 overs for eight wickets
Kulkarni tried to steady the rocking ship with a calm 52 from 54 balls but wickets continued to tumble at the other end. Barring Abhay Dube (13) no other batsmen managed to reach double figure.
Kulkarni’s unbeaten knock included six boundaries.
For ‘Lokmat’ Sachin Rahangdale and Vivek Vyavhare were the most successful bowlers with two wickets each Sharad Mishra and Nitin Patariya took one each.
‘Lokmat’ achieved the target in 14 overs losing five wickets. Amit Khodke top scored with 32.
In another match, ‘The Hitavada’ were awarded four points after ‘Punyanagari’ forfeited their match.
On Thursday: ‘Sakal’ vs ‘Lokshahi Varta’ at Ambedkar College ground ‘The Hitavada’ vs ‘Times of India’ at Vasant Nagar ground.

Lonkar stars for Punyanagari
KUNAL Lonkar starred with ball and bat as Punyanagari defeated Sakal by three wickets in a Super Six game of the 15th SJAN-OCHRI inter-press invitational cricket tournament organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur.
Lonkar took four wickets from 2.3 overs conceding just seven runs as Sakal crawled to 86 all out in 18.3 overs. Ravi Daf too bowled well and scalped three wickets while Vikas Barokar took two.
For Sakal, Kishor Jamkar scored 24 from 32 balls with the help of four boundaries. Pankaj Borkar slammed 33 from 34 balls which included five balls to the fence while Rajesh Vyavhare scored 16. Punyanagari conceded 32 extras which included 25 wides.
For Punyanagari, Daf scored 13-ball 20 while man of the match Lonkar remained unbeaten on 42 which were laced with two sixes and a four.
In another match played at Dr Ambedkar College ground, Times of India defeated Lokshahi Varta by 10 wickets.
Lokshahi Varta were bundled out for 72 runs from 16.3 over with Abhay Dube being the top scorer with 16 runs. Suraj Nair and Faisal Qamar took three wickets each while Piyush Patil and Sandeep Dabhekar took two.
Times of India achieved the target in 9.5 overs without losing any wicket. Rupesh Bhaik scored 44 from 35 balls while Suhas Nayse scored 23 from 24 balls.
Bhaik was named man of the match.
On Wednesday: The Hitavada vs Punyanagari at Dr Ambedkar College ground; Lokmat vs Lokshahi Varta and Vasant Nagar ground.
