Piyush Patil’s excellent spell and some hard-hitting batting while chasing helped Times of India beat Sakal by nine wickets in the ongoing 15th SJAN-OCHRI inter-press invitational cricket tournament organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur at Vasant Nagar ground.
With this win, Times of India finished on the top of Group C followed by Sakal at the second position.
Electing to bat first, Sakal started well with 50 from first five overs but they lost wickets at regular intervals as they managed to reach 110 losing nine wickets.
Opener Kishor Jamkar used the long handle to score a fine 21 off 18 balls which included five boundaries. Pankaj Borkar scored 29-ball 25 which were laced with six balls to the fence. Swapnil Nagpure added 15.
Times of India’s Piyush Patil bowled a fine spell and conceded just six runs from his quota of four overs.
Faizal Qamar and Umesh Tekade took three wickets each.
In reply, the winners chased down the target in 13 overs. Subodh Ratnaparkhi scored 22. His knock included three fours and a six while Suhas Nayse remained unbeaten on 42 with the help of three boundaries. Man of the match Patil scored 23-ball 36 with the help of three fours and two sixes.
