Lokhande slams unbeaten 157 in Hitavada's win

Praveen Lokhande hammered a record-breaking unbeaten 157 to help ‘The Hitavada’ thrash ‘Tarun Bharat’ by 165 runs in the opening encounter of the 15th Orange City Hospital Cup Inter-Press T20 cricket tournament at Dr Ambedkar College ground, Deekshabhoomi.
The tourney is sponsored by OCHRI. Satvik Financial Services Limited are the co-sponsors.
Man of the match Lokhande came one down and went after the hapless ‘Tarun Bharat’ bowlers to hit 26 boundaries and one six in his hurricane knock. Lokhande broke previous record of 147 held by Nitin Pataria of Lokmat.
Riding on his blast, ‘The Hitavada’ amassed 231-3 in 20 overs. Lokhande was well supported by opener Abhimanyu Garud (34; 24b, 6x4) and Pawan Sawade (26; 20 b, 2x4).
‘Tarun Bharat’ were shot out for 66 in 13.3 overs. Off-spinner Vinay Pande was the wrecker-in-chief clinching four wickets for nine runs.
Seamers Nilay Surve and Saleem Sheikh chipped in with two wickets each conceding 15 and 21 runs, respectively. Susheem Kolay and Ramamurti Nerlay took a wicket apiece.
In another match, ‘Lokshahi Varta’ defeated ‘Dainik Bhaskar’ by five runs.
‘Lokshahi Varta’ scored 131 all out in 18 overs. Dhiraj Thute (33; 15b, 7x4) was the top-scorer. Bandu Dhore (4-26) and Sujan Masid (3-28) were the wicket-takers.
‘Bhaskar’ were bowled out for 126 runs in 18 overs. Masid remained not out on 58 (9x4). Sarang Chavhan (3-27), Manish Gadekar (3-24) and Abhay Dubey (3-20) picked up wickets for ‘Lokshahi Varta’.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Udaybhaskar Nair, Chairman, Nairsons. Dr Anup Marar, Director, OCHRI, and Prakash Dixit, President, Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) also graced the function.
SJAN member Dr Ram Thakur conducted the proceedings. Vice-President Rahul Dixit made the introductory remarks while Secretary Kishor Bagde proposed a vote of thanks.
On Wednesday: ‘Punyanagari’ vs ‘Dainik Bhaskar’ at Ambedkar; ‘Times of India’ vs ‘IE-Loksatta’ at Vasant Nagar.
