‘Lokmat’ inch closer to semis

‘LOKSHAHI Varta’s Abhiskeh Kulkarni’s fighting half-century went in vain as ‘Lokmat’ defeated them by five wickets in a Super Six match of the 15th SJAN-OCHRI Inter-Press Cricket Tournament organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur.

‘Lokshahi Varta’ were in trouble right from the beginning as they lost both the openers with only five runs on the board. They managed 96 from 20 overs for eight wickets
Kulkarni tried to steady the rocking ship with a calm 52 from 54 balls but wickets continued to tumble at the other end. Barring Abhay Dube (13) no other batsmen managed to reach double figure.
Kulkarni’s unbeaten knock included six boundaries.
For ‘Lokmat’ Sachin Rahangdale and Vivek Vyavhare were the most successful bowlers with two wickets each Sharad Mishra and Nitin Patariya took one each.
‘Lokmat’ achieved the target in 14 overs losing five wickets. Amit Khodke top scored with 32.
In another match, ‘The Hitavada’ were awarded four points after ‘Punyanagari’ forfeited their match.
On Thursday: ‘Sakal’ vs ‘Lokshahi Varta’ at Ambedkar College ground ‘The Hitavada’ vs ‘Times of India’ at Vasant Nagar ground.
