Race hots up for semis

Lokmat, Hitavada, Punyanagari Leading

So far defending champions Lokmat from group A, The Hitavada and Punyanagari from group B were leading with eight points each in 17th Allahabad-SJAN Inter-Press Cricket Tournament organised by Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur. Motion are the co-sponsor of the tournament. In group A, Lokmat won first two matches and earned eight points. The Times of India also have eight points to their credit but they have played one match more than Lokmat. Dainik Bhaskar opened their account defeating IE-Loksatta on Wednesday. Deshonnati have lost two consecutive matches and have no point to their credit. The battle is intensified in group B. Former champions The Hitavada and Punyanagari were sitting top with eight points each after playing two matches. On the other hand, last years runners-up Sakal has played just one match and that too lost against The Hitavada. On Friday, they will play crucial tie against Punyanagari the result of which can make the picture clear. Other two teams Tarun Bharat and Lokshahi Varta are yet to open their account and to remain in contention, they will have to spring some surprises. Meanwhile Sanjay Chinchole has sponsored man-of-the match trophies in the memory of his father Gangadharraopant Chinchole. Friday's fixtures: Sakal vs Punyanagari at Ambedkar College ground. Lokmat vs IE-Loksatta at Vasant Nagar.Both the matches will start at 9.30 a.m.
