NINE-TIME champions The Hitavada continued their winning run with a crushing 104-run win over Lokshahi Varta in their Super Six encounter of the Orange City Hospital Cup 13th Inter-Press Twenty20 Cricket Tournament. With this win The Hitavada have virtually assured themselves a place in the semi-finals, for the 13th time in as many years.
Making first use of the wicket most The Hitavada batsmen chipped in with useful contributions to post a challenging 170 for 7 in 20 overs. After an early wicket, Praveen Lokhande (42; 25b, 6x4) and Kamlesh Waghire (21; 5x4) settled well for a good partnership. Even after losing Lokhande and Waghire inside the first 10 overs The Hitavada batsmen kept on hitting useful knocks.
Pawan Sawade (36; 26b, 4x4) and Nikhil Dixit (23; 27b, 2x4) shared a fine 49-run stand to keep the innings on track. Susheem Kolay and wicket-keeper Paritosh Pramanik (13*; 8b, 2x4) provided the late impetus to give The Hitavada a good total to defend.
Lokshahi Varta, the new entrant to the tournament, found the going tough against the swinging ball early on and lost wickets at regular intervals. It was the lack of control of The Hitavada new-ball bowlers that gave their opponents their highest score in wides. After the extras Tushar Bhandare (16) was the only one to reach double figures.
Once Kolay removed the other opener left-arm spinner Rammurti Nerlay again spun his magical web around the batsmen to pick another five-wicket haul (5 for 14).
Man of the Match Lokhande too had his share in the spoils taking three wickets in his only over without conceding a run.
On Wednesday: Lokmat vs Tarun Bharat at Ambedkar College ground at 9 am.
