Lokshahi Varta a step away from semis

Debutant Lokshahi Varta kept their hopes of reaching the semis alive after defeating Sakal by 13 runs in a super six tie of 13th OCHRI Cup Inter-Press Invitational Cricket Tournament at Ambedkar College ground, here on Thursday.
The tournament is being organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) and sponsored by Orange City Hospital and Research Institute (OCHRI). Satvik Group is the co-sponsor of the event. Batting first after winning the toss, Lokshahi Varta scored 111 for 8 in 20 overs. After some early hiccups Vishal Mahakalkar, who later adjudged as man-of-the-match, steadied the innings and scored 38 with the help of seven boundaries. Abhay Dube (19) and Sandip Ganar 15 (2x4) also batted well. For Sakal, Rajesh Vyavhare (3 for 16) was the most successful bowler. Kishor Jamkar and Avishkar Deshmukh got one wicket each.
In reply, Sakal were restricted to 98 for nine in 20 overs. Avishkar Deshmukh 21 (2x4), Prashant Nimbarte (18 not out) and Rajesh Vyavhare (16) showed some resistance. For Lokshahi Varta, Mahakalkar claimed three wickets for 15 runs. He was ably supported by Rahul Chonde (2 for 19). Sakal will now have to win against defending champions The Hitavada to qualify for the semis. Earlier, players were introduced to former Ranji Trophy player and chief manager of Union Bank of India Rajesh Gawande and Dr Suresh Chandak .
