Hitavada enter semi-finals


Despite Sakal putting up a brave effort, defending champions The Hitavada held their nerve to record a narrow six-run win and enter the semi-finals of the Orange City Hospital Cup 13th Inter-Press Twenty20 Cricket Tournament at Dr Ambdekar College ground on Saturday.
The tournament is being organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur and sponsored by Orange City Hospital and Research Institute (OCHRI). Satvik Group is the co-sponsor of the tournament.
The Hitavada lost opener Rahul Dixit (14; 12b, 4x3) early after winning the toss a opting to bat in their last Super Six game. Dangerman Pravin Lokhande (32; 18b, 3x4, 2x6) along with Nikhil Dixit (21; 19b; 3x4) and Salim Sheikh (21; 17b; 3x4) made useful contributions to take The Hitavada to 149 for eight in their allotted 20 overs.
Kishor Jamkar (2-38) was the pick of the bowlers for Sakal while Avishkar Deshmukh, Devendra Sadawarti and Sachin Belwadkar chipped in with a wicket each.
Chasing the total, Sakal lost in-form Deshmukh (12; 22b, 2x4) when Rammurti Nerlay trapped the wicket-keeper in front. Sakal were looking good at one point with Rajesh Vyawahare (52; 40b, 7x4, 1x6) and Kishor Jamkar (40; 33b, 6x4, 1x6) at the crease. Needing 12 runs in the last over Salim Sheikh (1-17), The Hitavada gave just five runs away and took the vital wicket of Vyawahare to seal their place in the semi-finals.
Vyawahare was adjudged man of the match for his valiant effort.
Earlier, the players were introduced to BC Bhartia, President, Vidarbha Hockey Association and Vishal Muttemwar.
Monday’s fixture: Semi-finals: The Hitavada vs Punyanagari at 9 am; Lokmat vs Lokshahi Varta at 1 pm.
