Lokmat retain crown in style

Drub Sakal by seven wickets, Mishra declared man-of-the-series

Lokmat once again stamped their supremacy by winning  16th Vicco-SJAN Inter-Press Cricket Tournament which was organised by Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) at Ambedkar College ground on Saturday. 
In the final Lokmat thrashed Sakal by seven wickets to defend the title. Vicco Laboratories were the main sponsor of the tournament while Motion Tutorials are co-sponsor. 
Sakal skipper Rajesh Vyavhare won the toss for consecutive eighth time and elected to bat first. Thanks to Lokmat bowlers who didn't allow the batsmen to score freely. As a result Sakal were  restricted to 103 for six in 20 overs. Sachin Khadke delivered an early blow by trapping Sunil Thawkar in front of stumps with just six runs on board. Then Kishor Jamkar (35, 6x4) and Pankaj Borkar (23) steadied the innings and made 46 run partnership for second wicket before Devendra Sadavarti dismissing Jamkar who earlier got three lives. Rajesh Vyavhare (14) and Sachin Belwalkar (11 not out) got good start but failed to convert them into big knocks. For Lokmat,  Nitin Patariya claimed two wickets for 17. Sachin Khadke, Devendra Sadavarti, Sharad Mishra and Amit Khodke were chipped in with one wicket. 
In reply, Lokmat chased down the target losing just three wickets in 16 overs. After losing first wicket on just eight runs man-of-the series Sharad Mishra (44, 42b, 5x4) and skipper Amit Khodke (41, 48b, 5x4) punished the rival bowlers and stitched up match winning 82 run partnership for second wicket. Avishkar Deshmukh remained unbeaten on 6. 
NIT chairman Pravin Darade visited the venue and encouraged the players. Secretary of Dr Ambedkar College Smarak Samiti Sadanand Fulzele, director of Motion Pramod Walmandre, Prof Bondre, director of Ashwamedh Infrastructure Rahul Fusey and NUWJ secretary Anupam Soni distributed the prizes. 
SJAN secretary Kishor bagde made introductory remarks. President Dr Ram Thakur and joint-secretary Sarang Kunte conducted the proceedings while treasurer Suhas Nayse proposed a vote of thanks.

"सकाळ' आज विजेतेपदासाठी खेळणार


स्पोर्टस जर्नालिस्ट असोसिएशन ऑफ नागपूरतर्फे आयोजित सोळाव्या विको-एसजेएएन आंतरप्रेस क्रिकेट स्पर्धेत विजेतेपदासाठी शनिवारी गतविजेता "लोकमत' आणि प्रथमच अंतिम फेरी गाठणारा "सकाळ' संघ आमनेसामने येत आहेत. 
दीक्षाभूमी स्थित आंबेडकर महाविद्यालयाच्या मैदानावर सकाळी साडेनऊ वाजता ही लढत सुरू होईल. दोन्ही संघ जबरदस्त फॉर्मात असल्याने लढत चुरशीची होण्याची शक्‍यता आहे. स्पर्धेच्या सलामी लढतीत "लोकमत'ने "सकाळ'वर मात केली होती; मात्र त्यानंतर जबरदस्त कामगिरीच्या जोरावर "सकाळ'ने अंतिम फेरी गाठली. किशोर जामकर, सुनील ठवकर, पंकज बोरकर, ओम ढाकुलकर यांनी फलंदाजीत उत्तम कामगिरी केली आहे. बोरकर, राजेश व्यवहारे, सचिन बेलवलकर आणि अतिशय संथ गोलंदाजी करणारा धोकादायक अनिल कांबळे यांच्या गोलंदाजीचा प्रतिस्पर्धी संघातील शरद मिश्रा, नितीन पटारिया, अमित खोडके आणि सचिन खडके हे फलंदाज कसा सामना करतात, हा उत्सुकतेचा विषय आहे. अंतिम फेरी गाठण्याची ही लोकमतची ही सातवी वेळ असली तरी यापूर्वी तीनदा त्यांना विजेतेपद मिळविता आले आहे.

Lokmat-Sakal face off in final today


Defending champion Lokmat will take on Sakal in the final of 16th Vicco-SJAN Inter-Press T20 Cricket Tournament organised by Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) on Saturday at Dr Ambedkar College ground at 9.30 a.m.
Vicco laboratories are the main sponsor of the tournament while Motion Tutorials are the co-sponsor.
Lokmat who are still undefeated in this tournament are desperate to defend the crown. On the contrary Sakal who have qualified for the final for the first time in the history of inter-press cricket are eying maiden title. Therefore the spectators can witness a tough encounter between both the sides.
Lokmat entered the final defeating Punyanagari by one wicket in a thriller. The confidence of Sakal is high after stunning last year's runners-up The Times of India in the second semi-final. Lokmat have a strong batting line up in the form of  strong man-of-the-series contender Shrad Mishra, skipper Amit Khodke, Nitin Patariya and all-rounder  Sachin Khadke. Their bowlers Sachin Rahangdale, Mishra, Khadke are also performing well. Sakal's batting  mainly revolve around Pankaj Borkar who so far is highest run scorer in the tournament and opening batsman Kishor Jamkar. Sunil Thawkar is another player to be watched out for.
The prize distribution function of the tournament will be held immediately after the final. NIT chairman Praveen Darade will be the chief guest on the occasion. Pramod Walmandre of Motion, secretary of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Smarak Samiti Sadanand Fulzele, director of Ashwamedh Infrastructure Rahul Fusey and NUWJ president Bramha Shankar Tripathi will also grace the occasion.

Sakal stun ToI to enter maiden final



Defending champion Lokmat will take on Sakal in the final of 16th Vicco-SJAN Inter-Press Cricket Tournament organised by Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) at Dr Ambedkar College ground. The final will be played on Saturday.
Vicco Laboratories are the main sponsor of the tournament while Motion Tutorials are the co-sponsor. 

In the second semi-final, Sakal stunned last year's runners-up The Times of India  by 36 runs. Batting first after winning the toss Sakal made 156 for four in 20 overs. In form Pankaj Borkar played an unbeaten knock of 69 facing 51 deliveries. His innings was studded with nine boundaries. Earlier openers Sunil Thakwar (36, 5x4) and Kishor Jamkar (32, 8x4) laid a solid foundation. For TOI, Rupesh Bhaik claimed two wickets conceding 39 runs.
In reply, despite Suhas Nayse's effort (45, 39b, 5x4) TOI were all out for 120 in 19.4 overs. Suraj Nair (21) and Subodh Ratnaparkhi (12) were other scorers. For Sakal, skipper Rajesh Vyavhare (3 for 14) was the most successful bowler. Batting hero Pankaj Borkar (2 for 29) and Sachin Belwalkar (2 for 22) also bowled well. Borkar was declared man-of-the-match for his all-round performance.
The final between Lokmat and Sakal will be played on Saturday at the same venue from 9.30 a.m. onwards.

"सकाळ'ने आतापर्यंत चार वेळा उपांत्य फेरीही गाठली आहे. गेल्यावर्षी उपांत्य लढतीत "टीओआय'कडून झालेल्या पराभवाची परतफेड "सकाळ'ने आज केली. आंबेडकर महाविद्यालयाच्या मैदानावर नाणेफेक जिंकून "सकाळ'ने प्रथम फलंदाजी करण्याचा निर्णय घेतला. कर्णधार राजेश व्यवहारेने सलग सातव्या सामन्यात नाणेफेक जिंकण्याचा विक्रम केला. किशोर जामकर आणि सुनील ठवकर या सलामी जोडीने संयमी फलंदाजी करीत 50 धावांची भागीदारी केली. जामकर बाद झाल्यावर सामनावीर पंकज बोरकर आणि ठवकर यांनी 69 धावा जोडल्या. सलग दोन विकेट पडल्यानंतर बोरकर व व्यवहारेने 37 धावांची भागीदारी केल्याने "सकाळ'ला 156 धावा उभारता आल्या. 
प्रत्युत्तरात "टीओआय'चे फलंदाज ठरावीक अंतराने बाद होत गेले. एकवेळ त्यांची 5 बाद 48 अशी अवस्था होती. गोलंदाजीला क्षेत्ररक्षणाची जोड मिळाल्याने "सकाळ'ला 36 धावांनी सफाईदार विजय मिळविता आला.

Lokmat win thriller, enter final

Pip Punyanagari by one wicket

In a nail-biting encounter, defending champion Lokmat pipped Punyanagari by one wicket to enter the final in Vicco-SJAN Inter-Press Cricket Tournament organised by Sports Journalists' Association of  Nagpur (SJAN) at Ambedkar College ground on Wednesday.
Vicco Laboratories are the main sponsor of the tournament while Motion Tutorials are the co-sponsor.
Chasing a modest target of 108, Lokmat lost their wickets at regular interval. They required seven runs in last over with just one wicket in hand. Sachin Turak took one run on first delivery of last over. However on the second delivery Lokmat lost the ninth wicket in the form of Vivek Vyavhare who was run out while taking sharp single.
The credit of victory should go to tailender Sachin Rahangdale who smashed the boundary on third ball and then took three runs on fourth to fashion thrilling victory sparing two balls and one wicket. Earlier in form Sharad Mishra scored 37 including four boundaries. skipper Amit Khodke (11) and Nitin Pataria (10) were other scorers. For Punyangari, Vaibhav Sonawane (3 for 15) was the most successful bowler.
Batting first after winning the toss, Punyanagari scored 107 all out in 19.1 overs. Ravi Daf top scored with 38. Pankaj Pande contributed 20. For Lokmat, Nitin Patariya (3 for 14) was the main wicket taker. He was ably supported by Devendra Sadavarti (2 for 28). Sharad Mishra and Sachin Khadke claimed one wicket each. Mishra was declared man-of-the-match.
On Thursday The Times of India will take on Sakal in the second semi-final at 9.30 a.m. at the same venue.
