Drub Sakal by seven wickets, Mishra declared man-of-the-series
Lokmat once again stamped their supremacy by winning 16th Vicco-SJAN Inter-Press Cricket Tournament which was organised by Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) at Ambedkar College ground on Saturday.
In the final Lokmat thrashed Sakal by seven wickets to defend the title. Vicco Laboratories were the main sponsor of the tournament while Motion Tutorials are co-sponsor.
Sakal skipper Rajesh Vyavhare won the toss for consecutive eighth time and elected to bat first. Thanks to Lokmat bowlers who didn't allow the batsmen to score freely. As a result Sakal were restricted to 103 for six in 20 overs. Sachin Khadke delivered an early blow by trapping Sunil Thawkar in front of stumps with just six runs on board. Then Kishor Jamkar (35, 6x4) and Pankaj Borkar (23) steadied the innings and made 46 run partnership for second wicket before Devendra Sadavarti dismissing Jamkar who earlier got three lives. Rajesh Vyavhare (14) and Sachin Belwalkar (11 not out) got good start but failed to convert them into big knocks. For Lokmat, Nitin Patariya claimed two wickets for 17. Sachin Khadke, Devendra Sadavarti, Sharad Mishra and Amit Khodke were chipped in with one wicket.
In reply, Lokmat chased down the target losing just three wickets in 16 overs. After losing first wicket on just eight runs man-of-the series Sharad Mishra (44, 42b, 5x4) and skipper Amit Khodke (41, 48b, 5x4) punished the rival bowlers and stitched up match winning 82 run partnership for second wicket. Avishkar Deshmukh remained unbeaten on 6.
NIT chairman Pravin Darade visited the venue and encouraged the players. Secretary of Dr Ambedkar College Smarak Samiti Sadanand Fulzele, director of Motion Pramod Walmandre, Prof Bondre, director of Ashwamedh Infrastructure Rahul Fusey and NUWJ secretary Anupam Soni distributed the prizes.
SJAN secretary Kishor bagde made introductory remarks. President Dr Ram Thakur and joint-secretary Sarang Kunte conducted the proceedings while treasurer Suhas Nayse proposed a vote of thanks.
