By recording convincing victories over their opponents, Sakal and Punyanagari entered the Super Six stage in 16th Vicco-SJAN Inter-Press Cricket Tournament organised by Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) on Saturday.
Vicco Laboratories are the main sponsor of the tournament while Motion Tutorials are the co-sponsor. At Vasant Nagar ground Sakal drubbed Loksatta by 134 runs. Batting first Sakal posted a huge total of 220 for seven in 20 overs. Pankaj Borkar played a brilliant knock of 65 in 31 balls hitting three sixes and ten boundaries. Opener Kishor Jamkar missed the half century by just three runs. His 28-ball 47 include nine boundaries. Sunil Thawkar (30), Om Dhakulkar (23) also batted well.
For Loksatta, Sharad Parteti (3 for 36) and Pramod Pardhi (2 for 28) were the main wicket takers. In reply, Loksatta were bowled out for 86 in 14 overs. Only Harshwardhan Datir (30) showed some resistance. For Sakal, Devendra Deshpande claimed four wickets for 18 runs. Rajesh Vyavhare (3 for 3) and Sachin Belvalkar (2 for 19) also bowled well. Pankaj Borkar was named man of the match.
At Ambedkar College ground, Punyanagari recorded 41 run victory over Dainik Bhaskar. Batting first Punyanagari scored 170 for 8 in 20 overs. Ravi Duf top scored with 41. Left-handed Pankaj Pande contributed 39.
For Dainik Bhaskar Bandu Dhore (4 for 41) was the main wicket taker. In reply Dainik Bhaskar could able to score 139 for five. Ronel Michael's half century knock (58) went in vain. Sujan Masid contributed 29. Pankaj Pande was declared man-of-the-match.
