Pip Punyanagari by one wicket
In a nail-biting encounter, defending champion Lokmat pipped Punyanagari by one wicket to enter the final in Vicco-SJAN Inter-Press Cricket Tournament organised by Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) at Ambedkar College ground on Wednesday.
Vicco Laboratories are the main sponsor of the tournament while Motion Tutorials are the co-sponsor.
Chasing a modest target of 108, Lokmat lost their wickets at regular interval. They required seven runs in last over with just one wicket in hand. Sachin Turak took one run on first delivery of last over. However on the second delivery Lokmat lost the ninth wicket in the form of Vivek Vyavhare who was run out while taking sharp single.
The credit of victory should go to tailender Sachin Rahangdale who smashed the boundary on third ball and then took three runs on fourth to fashion thrilling victory sparing two balls and one wicket. Earlier in form Sharad Mishra scored 37 including four boundaries. skipper Amit Khodke (11) and Nitin Pataria (10) were other scorers. For Punyangari, Vaibhav Sonawane (3 for 15) was the most successful bowler.
Batting first after winning the toss, Punyanagari scored 107 all out in 19.1 overs. Ravi Daf top scored with 38. Pankaj Pande contributed 20. For Lokmat, Nitin Patariya (3 for 14) was the main wicket taker. He was ably supported by Devendra Sadavarti (2 for 28). Sharad Mishra and Sachin Khadke claimed one wicket each. Mishra was declared man-of-the-match.
On Thursday The Times of India will take on Sakal in the second semi-final at 9.30 a.m. at the same venue.
