Nagpur: Sandeep Dabhekar scalped three wickets as defending champions The Times of India (TOI) knocked out Punya Nagari by five wickets in the 18th OCW-SJAN Inter-Press Twenty20 Cricket tournament at the Ambedkar College ground here on Wednesday.
Opting to bat, Punya Nagari lost couple of early wickets and that restricted their progress. They could muster only 131 for 7 in 20 overs. Man-of-the-match Dabhekar got rid of dangerous Ravi Daf (7) and Shrikant Kotgule (0) with just ten on the board. Shridhar Hatangade (37 not out) and Vaibhav Sonawane (31) batted well later in the innings.
TOI romped home with five wickets and 2.5 overs to spare. Rupesh Bhaik played a strokeful knock of 46 in just 29 balls hitting 8 boundaries. Significant contributions also came from opener Suhas Nayse (25), Suraj Nair (20 not out) and Piyush Patil (17 not out). Sunil Khorgade got two wickets.
Now TOI will play The Hitavada in the second qualifier to be played on Friday at the same venue at 9.30 am. The winner will play Lokmat in final.
